Coming out...I was diagnosed with ADHD...

This is my first post in a WHILE. I've really missed this community - it's been...a strange year....

I was diagnosed with ADHD over the summer and as an adult it was heartbreaking to be told that this is what I've been suffering from all my life. IF ONLY. IF...ONLY....this was the constant thought in my head...

It was always a struggle. I could never figure out what was going on - I just told myself "you're just a dumbass.." 😂

Again...if only I had been diagnosed sooner maybe I could have done something different? Been something different? I'll never know. And that's the heartbreaking part.

First few days were horrendous. Not going to lie. I kept thinking back to all of these situations ever since I was little and how they impacted me. This in-itself is a weird part of ADHD. We tend to 'hold' onto strange events that most others just brush off and forget.

Another weird part of ADHD is this need for a constant new 'fix'.

And unfortunately my next fix for the last 14yrs have been watches - and boy has it been a wild journey.

So I am also here to say I am a watch addict 😂

And despite me saying to everyone (even on here) that THIS IS IT......as a watch addict what does one do? They look for their NEXT 'fix'.

😂😂

AND exactly in-line with what an ADHD person would do - the long winded, back-story explanation instead of getting straight to the damn point....here are the watches that I am totally obsessing over:

Knowing earlier certainly would have been ideal…but now you know and you can make the adjustments you need to make going forward. This is a good thing!

Agree. 100%.

But how do I tackle the urge for “just one more watch”? 😂

Not gonna find that help here…but you know that

Finding the two Omegas you want has been a challenge for me over the last two years. I’ve been close but have yet to find the right piece at the correct price. Perhaps it’s not possible but hope springs eternal. Happy to hear you now have a direction to go in. Best wishes

I do - I’m just playing here.

As someone who also suffers, remember you aren't alone. I guarantee someone you know also has it. Medications are helpful but not perfect. Watches have helped me. My obsession with time has made me more cognizant of its passing. It can be an anchor and a means of focusing. Of course, you can just stare at dials and get lost in them. Lol

There's new treatment coming. Not stimulant based. I can't wait.

They are. IMO they are up there with the 5-digit subs.

Such an amazing, harmonious design.

Lol. For their ADHD. Not their watch addiction. No help for that.

I'll throw in a bit of sidewalk psychology for free.

"Another weird part of ADHD is this need for a constant new 'fix'." Modern consumerism could not survive without lots of people being this way. Another term for this might be "retail therapy".

Everybody is addicted to something. There are worse things to be addicted to than watches.

Amit, Firstly RUOK? Are you truely OK? Do you have a good support network you can call on to talk to? My heart goes out to you. I love the way you shared so openly. I can't begin to imagine what you've been through. Have you considered, that with watches like those in your collection, you may not be "lost in the world of watches" as you say in your profile. Please keep sharing and You keep doing You friend 👍

I am. I’m much better than I was when I was first diagnosed.

Nowadays I look back at the things and laugh tbh - there are some really funny things us ADHD folk do 😂

And…not gonna lie the meds have calmed my otherwise chaotic mind down. It feels calm, weird, and surreal.

I’m thankful for your note. I sincerely appreciate it 👊🏼

I to have ADHD and didn’t find out until my late 20’s. Also thought the same things, I was a successful golfer but I do believe had I been diagnosed when I was younger I would have been a better player.

That being said I now collect and change many things constantly looking for something different in a more controlled way: Watches, boats, cars, clothes 😂. It drives my wife NUTS!!😄. But I will say that having ADHD has benefits and has really helped me as a business owner, it keeps me on my toes and I never settle so I always have drive. Oh and also I collect CHECKS!😂

I agree.

Because of the hyper-focus nature of ADHD it’s actually made more passionate about economics (macro and micro). So much so that I’d love to go back to university and study it.

So I’m there with you on that - actually the person who sort of shone a spotlight on ADHD and made me start asking the question also told me the same thing.

“This is your super power”.

Thanks buddy 👊🏼

Have that and complex PTSD. And this year they tacked on high functioning autism. Could be worse.

Really? Is it called watches? 😎 No serious, what is coming?

Hey man. I’ve ADHD too. Finally got myself diagnosed and treated after crashing out and spiralling into serious mental trouble last year. I’m 43 now. It’s responsible for my biggest successes and also my biggest failures. Oh… and many previously impulsive and expensive watch purchases haha.

I’m back on the up now.

Funny reading this thread. I suspect there’s a higher than representative sample of watch collectors who are adhd! Oh look new spangly and sparkling watch, and another oooooh just one more 🤌👌

I’m so glad to hear that you are on the up - I know how it must have felt….

We are of similar age as well - for me I kept looking at my son and told myself I need to figure my shit out otherwise it could have serious repurcussions.

On the up with you, my friend 👊🏼

Studying psylocybin as treatment. Looks very promising
