I always wanted a birth year watch, but didn't like the idea of buying an older watch that could have issues whether it be mechanical (in the movement) or water resistance (because of old seals/design). So I ended up buying the Seiko 1968 re-issue slim turtle.

Are you looking for an actual older birth year watch or buying a newer reissue?
I was hatched.
Reason for parting with it?
Just got a new watch and had to come up with some funds. The watch was a 1990 tag heuer night diver. But I had to sell it for this
A few weeks ago I had the chance to buy a beautiful condition birth-year Submariner. But I couldn't spend that much money on a watch I'd probably be afraid to wear daily. 1974 for $18k through the Rolex pre-owned program.
Let me guess your birth year now.

Nice watch. And nice socks.

Thank you 🙏
I don't own a birth year watch. If I wanted one, I'd go for a reissue: the Bulova Jet Star. No prizes to be won for guessing the year I was born.
I don't have one, but it is something that is around my head.
A hint. I am fan of Japanese chronographs of that decade and I am from the first half of that decade.
Lucky enough to get my hands on a 1970 Vulcain. Also purchased a 1970 Lord Matic in November. Waiting for it to arrive.

Great watch...but those crocs man, my stomach turns 😎😂
If reissues count, do watches that haven't gone out of production count? I mean, I have a Certina that was actually crafted in the year I was born but I also have a DateJust that, while 16 years younger than me, is mostly identical to one from my birth year. I consider the Certina to be my birth year watch, not the Rolex.
Bought my birth year watch last summer, she’s my most worn watch at the moment.
Had to get a birth year sub circa 1982.
I do actually have a birth year watch, but it's by coincidence, as it was awarded that year to my grandfather when he retired from work (companies actually did that...) and I inherited it.
I do not have one, but I plan on getting a '97 watch sooner or later 😁
I don’t have one yet, but I’ll pick up a watch from 02 eventually.
here’s is my 1968 connie c case if you are curious @phinsfanfla
I was looking at vintage omega. Also had my eye on a few Tudor prince day/dates. In the end picked the Seiko because of the peace of mind of having something new and I knew it would get a lot more use versus a nice dress watch.
1951 Omega from a shop in Amsterdam.....had to have it.
I don't have one; I have many vintage watches that are a few years older, but I would never purchase a watch just because of my birth year. The reason I buy and collect watches has variables involved that date year is just not something that is important. Historical significance, movement type, dial design, complication, and value for money or potential in value are the things that interest me.

I think this is one of those cases where it makes sense: you see a watch you already like, and it happens to be a birth year, and you would purchase it anyway. Very cool
Had one but sold it
Nice! It's not that important. It's a cool coincidence if you have one, but to seek a birth year watch seems quite silly. But to each their own.
How can you get a new birth year watch?
How can you get a new birth year watch?
When companies releases anniversaries and special editions of those years. Ex, Omega just released their Apollo 8 Speedmaster dark side of the moon which the actual mission happened back in 1968. Or Longines ultra chron which is also a 1968 reissue. I opted for the Seiko 1968 reissue, since I like the look of that year and wanted something newer. Technically it's not a "birth year" watch, but watches my age are usually not in the best condition. Wanted something that would last and get some use out of it. Didn't want to have to worry and baby an older watch.
Yeah, but it's a sun dial
I wonder if people go as close as birth month as I know on Seiko you can tell this by the serial number ?

Didn't think about that, but that would be pretty cool.
