Which of these two Seiko meet my purpose?

Hello community,

I own the Longines Conquest (3rd image) and I feel I don't want to wear it on a daily basis, but more likely in somehow special occasions, dinners, outings.

So I am thinking of purchasing a cheaper watch to wear it whenever, in the office etc, without giving it so much care as the one I already have.

I found these 2 Seiko, SRPG27 and SRPE55K1 that could do the work.

I know that a lot of you suggest to "wear it as often as possible" but here are my 2 questions:

1. Is what I am describing above a usual behavior among watch enthusiasts?

2. Which one of the 2 Seiko do you feel is better looking/versatile/be relevant in couple years? Any similar to suggest?

Thank you!

Some do. Don't worry about rando opinions of peeps on the Internet. Do what you want.

I'd say wear the Longines, but again refer back to my first sentence 😂.

Seiko DressKX all day long.

Look at @kentuckyman30 's posts. His amazing photos and review of the Seiko 5 "DressKX" is what brought me to Watch Crunch.

The DressKX is the middle one in your picture btws.

Out of all the ones pictured, to me that is the most versatile.

And who knows, maybe you'll sell the Longines.

The Seiko field watch……I ordered it and it felt small on my 7 inch wrist, it wore kind of small based on the dimensions…..I guess it’s the lug to lug. But that was the only downside.

What you are thinking is totally normal. You want to be happy not only with your watch but with how and when you wear your watch. Some people say watches are meant to be worn and that’s true but if you want to wear your Longines as a timepiece for special occasions then you don’t want to have anxiety wearing it as a daily wear increasing the chances of knicking it every time you get out of the car.

With that said I would try and refrain from putting the watch in the box in your closet. I’d consider investing in an automatic winder. There is oil in automatic watches and it’s good for them to move around from time to time so the oil doesn’t settle.

As far as which Seiko to get it depends on your preference. **The following is my opinion only** I love the look of both of these watches and love Seiko as a company. The SRPG27 looks more like a tool watch with the Arabic numerals and 24 hour time on it. The SRPE55K1 looks more dressy and formal. Because it looks more like a sport watch, I prefer the SRPG27 for daily wear but that is just my opinion!! Do not make that choice solely on that. See if you can find one if each to try on and go with the one you feel good about when it’s on your wrist.

Hope this helps.

Wear the Longines, get an Omega for special occasions 😉🤣

·

Seiko's have glass crystals where the Longines will have the sapphire crystal. Future revelance is dependent on styles and not likely to matter much. Whatever you wear will get battle scars so beat up the Seiko...which ever you find pretty

Thank you for the answer. Lovely watch. Have you tested it in water?

To be honest, I have this scenario in my mind. Like really strong. But I wait for Omega to release (if they will release anytime soon) an updated Seamaster.

Yup. I've worn every single new Seiko SRPD variant in/around water. No issues.

Wife wears her SRPD dive style regularly around water.

Also pretty sure @kentuckyman30 has an action shot, underwater with his on in his review of it.

Not saying it's a dive watch. But I've found for the most part, long as the watch is new, and/or the seals have been checked if old, 99.9% of the world's population is fine getting anything worn on the wrist wet.

15 ft is a long way down, much less 100m.

And disregard the old wives tales and internet rumours of "dynamic" pressure.

Unless you are riding the front of a torpedo on a one way trip and/or are Aquaman, no movement of your appendages underwater will generate enough psi changes to matter.

And if you can AND your appendage stays attached to your body, I'm sure your local Summer Olympics team would love to speak with you! 🫣😁😎😆

Just wear the longines enjoy it 🤷

SARV003 42mm but it wears like a 40mm would be my recommendation. Same movement, hardlex, better looking dial and handset not to mention Kanji date wheel option but better bracelet then to two options you mentioned. Has double lock on clasp and micro adjustments with 22mm lugs but the best part ....it can be had for $150 👀 available in white or black dial!

Here's the white dial option SARV001

IMHO, order both Seiko from Amazon, try the fit, and then return one. You never really know until it's on the wrist.

·

I’d say what you describe is common. Be aware it’s a slippery slope though. Now it’s an everyday watch and a nice watch.

Tomorrow everyday watch, office watch, nice watch. Diver watch. Dress watch.

In a year you are looking at a full watch box, and trying to come up to justifications not to buy that nice watch you just saw on WC

·

I second the vote for the DressKX. I have two of them— the sunburst grey dial and the non-gilt black dial. They are great everyday watches, and are much thinner than Seiko’s usual offerings. That said, I have no experience with the pictured Seiko field watch.

I love how much of an apologist of the DressKX you've become. 🤣

Lol, yea, but TBH, you started this....👀🫣😁

I mean if you didn't have such a good review and awesome pictures, I wouldn't have confirmed what I suspected.

I had been eyeballing them for awhile, you just nudged me over the edge bwahahahaha 😝.

·

The DresKX is a great choice and gives also kind of BB36 vibes. I am in a similar position and have for most of my heavy pieces an everyday back up. Just look at these

Just to show some examples 🤣

I cannot speak on the SRPE55K1, but I have the SRPG27K1 and it has impressed me to no end.

  1. Yes, a lot of us do, something some of us refer to as a beater watch.

  2. The SRPG looks nice, I like the more tactical look

·

I can understand wanting to take care of what you feel is your nicer watches. I do the same but also that means I have too many watches a nice watch and a beater version. 😂. And the irony is... Yes you will wear the more affordable beater watch more than the nice watch. Just remember to wear the Longines, it's the best way to enjoy it. But I get it, I do the same.

Now of the two options you've presented. DressKX all day every day. Nothing wrong with the Seiko field but the dresskx is in the dictionary next to the definition of GADA. 🙂

I like how you think...

·

Weee are the Longines whenever you want and buy a new watch too

·

If you want a watch that looks similar to the longines then the dressKX is the way to go, but for me I would want something a little different so I would choose the field watch. To add something extra I would choose the GMT SSK023K1

·

The SRPG27 is the best choice. You can dress it up and down and still doesn't get out of style. Plus, the everyday legibility is key to me. I chose between these two, and I let the instinct choosing it and I went ahead with the field watch. I am also an aviation geek, and the SRPG27 does combine some aviation watch elements with a field watch, which made sense to me. Still enjoying it after 6 months. Cheers!
