What's worse on a watch, for you?

Which of these is more of an issue for you?

Or is it something different?

I think for me folded links are also a no. Looks bad.

·

Poor lume is the worst. You can change a bracelet, change a crystal, polish acrylic but fixing bad lume is an art form in itself

A very good take. I hadn't thought of it like that.

Extraordinary that 'hollow end links' scores a third of the votes, when changing the strap is the easiest thing you can do to fix the issue, versus things you can't change - like the lume - and things you can't change easily - like the crystal. For me, by far the biggest issue in that list, however, is an acrylic crystal.

·

None of the above. I can't remember the last time I saw hollow end links. I've never had a problem with Hardlex, and won't complain on a cheap watch. I have one watch with an acrylic crystal, and it's fine, cool even, and it's easy to polish. I don't care about lume; most of my watches don't have any, and I don't really pay attention to the lume on the ones that do. There's almost always enough ambient light.

Got to be mineral crystal.

Hollow end-links aren’t ideal, but if done right they look fine

Acrylic offers a totally different look from sapphire, and can be appealing in certain designs.

Lume is cool, but again design dependent. Not every watch design needs it.

Mineral crystal just sucks. No advantages over sapphire (other than a couple bucks cheaper).

Pin and collar bracelets.

Assuming you want to replace it with a bracelet, of course 🙂

I can't recall a watch I've ever owned where I've replaced a bracelet with a bracelet.

I think the Seiko 5 models with after market bracelets available are a good investment to swap. I've been planning to swap mine.

Yeah, quite possibly. The Seiko 5's look good on bracelets, but ship with pretty diabolical ones. I move most of my watches to nato, leather, or rubber. I do have a Turtle that I toy with the thought of a beads of rice bracelet, but I've worn it so infrequently, and a good beads of rice bracelet isn't chump change for a watch you barely wear, so that idea's never taken off. Maybe one day? Uncle Seiko has a good one.

Well, the good news is, this year the Seiko 5 pictures of their release appear to have solid endlinks so this will be less of an issue.

I'm a big fan of strap options also but i have 2/3 watches that stay on the bracelet.

If you havent already, try a seatbelt strap. I'm a big fan of them and rubber, very comfortable.

I love vintage watches so....

·

They really are. That's one i think the majority can agree on.

For me it's round lume plots/indices. Hate 'em!!

Next date complications...

Dunno about acrylic crystals, not owned one since I was a kid, & probably never will.

Hollow end links/folded bracelet is irrelevant as there's aftermarket bracelets available.

Honestly never scratched a hardlex but given the choice I'd pick sapphire obviously.

You reminded me of another pet peave. When a dive watch has no lume pip on the dial.

Instantly becomes a dive style watch even if theres ample water resistance.

Hollow end links don't bother me as long as they are well made. Only one of my watches had hollow end links that rattled, and its anyway a dress watch I wear on leather

mineral crystal doesnt bother me on more affordable watches, tho of course saphire is always nice to have

Idk acrylic even if you can buff it i just know id put a massive gouge in one. So I voted c

As for lume, honestly I don't understand why so many people care about it? Imo it's a nice bonus but nothing more

It's none of those above for me, but rather:

a) Inconsistent minute track printing, especially on quartz watches.

b) The cyclops

c) Machining marks on sunburst dials that show under certain angles.

d) Dials that are littered with text.

e) Unlimited amounts of limited editions that are an easy upsell.

f) Premium versions of toolish watches that are largely the same familiar watch at an unfamiliar price, but not really a new watch.

These are really good points, the quarts alignment issue is awful. I love watching a quarts hands hit the marker. Very satisfying.

Yes, and I have watches where the second hand hits the markers on one side of the dial, but not the other. That too is very vexing. There are also watch designs that squeeze the mark next to a raised index where it really shouldn't be.

·

For me, 4:30 date windows and crown placements. Just not used to them.

My Grand Seiko quartz hits perfectly and it’s so satisfying. Never experienced this before.

Really satisfying. A lot of my love for watches is about enjoying things which are near perfect creations and a quarts hitting every mark really hits that spot for me, more than some automatics.

Close decision between mineral crystal or poor lume. I dislike mineral much more than acrylic, because scratches can’t be polished out. But poor lume breaks my heart
