Female Characters and Their Watches

“This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off.” 🚀

I have this reissue of the Casio F-100 from the 1979 classic Alien, which is the watch Sigourney Weaver’s character wears in the film. I recently picked up the Murph—named after the intelligent, rebellious, and heroic character who takes the fate of the Earth into her own hands in the 2014 movie Interstellar.

Any other female character watches I need to add to my #watchgirl collection list?

Any thoughts about why the Murph, particularly, has done so well with male collectors? 🤔

The Omega Speedmaster X-33 from Lucy In The Sky worn by Lucy Cola playing as an astronaut could be added to your list. :)

On the Murph. Probably because a lot men like the movie Interstellar (myself included) and the watch. It’s also quite a big watch (which was just recently in 38mm).

Wow, excellent! Some of these are in my current price range. The others give me something to aspire to! 😉 Maybe I’ll start with that Swatch!

I think Hermione Granger wears a Timex Easy Reader, yeah?

In Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Angelina Jolie can be seen wearing a Tissot T-touch t33159851 under a bund strap cover

If you follow the watch parade on Succession:

For the first three seasons, Shiv’s watches were those of a classic Park Avenue princess – Cartier, mostly a Panthère, with the occasional Pasha. They are less conventional than, say, a Tank. They don’t make a particular statement, but speak, instead, of quiet luxury. It is possible to surmise these watches were a gift from Logan, because, in season four, as she steps out from under her father’s control, her Cartiers have been replaced by what appears to be a big, bold, masculine Breitling Navitimer.

I have wondered the same thing about The Murph being popular with male collectors and I think it comes down to that it symbolizes a connection between fathers and their kids (male viewers can see themselves in either role) but more importantly it's a more palatable watch than the Hamilton Pilot that Mcconaughey wears in the movie.

Alien and Aliens, sci-fi royalty! I was looking to get this watch for the movie connection too! I love my Murph 38 as I had always wanted a Hamilton Field Khaki…until I saw Interstellar…massive fan and then they released the watch…Alas it was too large for me…then they went out and released the 38…No more excuses- bought it immediately and makes me smile every time I look at it. My particular watch also plays Hans Zimmer’s unforgettable score…but nobody but me seems to hear it... ☺️

Nice, looks cool.

What would Wonder Woman wear?

On to why its popular with men;

It’s got buttons and boys love pushing all those buttons.

Most of the ones that spring immediately to mind have been covered (I was hunting a Lara watch recently… there’s also a Timex Carabiner watch that counts) but thought I should mention than Nomi in NTTD actually wears the same watch as Bond as well, but it’s the NATO strap variant. I’ve mentioned it elsewhere when I did my post on the Bond NATO.

(And vis a vis the Casio, she wore two together, painted a little and in a strap/holder combo people sell 3D prints of.)

I think that’s a much cheaper similar watch — looks sterile. If I were to guess, I would say it’s a Lorus, based on the font difference, and when the films were made, and the likely places that would fit the character and be gone to by the props people.

Who doesn’t want to be as cool as Mathew Mc C ! It was his watch first I suppose .. Plus we all loved Murph the tough clever daughter…

·

Great watch and a very cool thread!

Yes, definitely a more palatable size!

Interesting! When you know you know… My experience was the opposite. I was a bit indifferent towards it until I tried it on. Couldn’t stop thinking about it after that!

·

I personally love almost everything Hamilton and when the “murph” came out a couple years ago, my wife (a physicist) wanted one but 42mm was way too large … until now. I think it’s a gorgeous, elegant watch 🤙❤️

Greetings fellow watch nerd girl 👋 Casio and Alien...it won't get better than this :-) What about Sarah Connor? She wore a watch, right?
