For watches with at least a date, I’d rather keep them running on a winder vs needing to reset the time and date.
Winders let you dictate where the wear occurs on your watch - either the setting mechanisms, which are designed for occasional use, or the standard timekeeping mechanisms, which are designed for constant use. I’d prefer the latter.

Sorry, Max - this take is a miss. The ETA period that you’re romanticizing was actually one of stagnation for Oris - they used outsourced movements starting in the 80s, but for the first 80 years of their history, they made their own. If you zoom out, they’re returning to their roots, not deviating from them.
I love this direction for Oris - candidly, ETA-based watches can only go so far, and there was a lot of pressure from microbrands who had a similar model. On the other hand, they watched competition (Longines, Tudor, etc.) go upmarket with differentiated movements.
The choice was basically to step down a tier and get grouped in with Microbrands, or try to do something different that would let them keep competing. Everyone has raised prices in the last 4 years - it’s not fair to single out Oris. A Submariner Date went from like $8k to $10k. The Speedmaster Pro doubled. Even brands like Sinn have seriously increased their prices. You’re also not paying MSRP for an Oris, even from an AD - and at market prices, I think both their ETA/Sellita and their Cal 400 offerings are pretty good values compared to the rest of the market. They have some awesome designs, the history of the company is really impressive, and they’re kind of the little guy in a space that’s so dominated by vertical integration.
And yes - I put my money where my mouth is, and couldn’t be happier with the watch.
Doesn’t matter if some are quartz - not many watchmakers haven’t made a quartz watch. Would I buy a quartz or even a spring drive? No. But the fact that they’re there doesn’t hurt the brand.
