What are your thoughts on the Seiko Speedtimer?

Hey everyone! Another one of the watches I’ve been able to photograph recently is the Seiko Speedtimer SSC909! It’s a limited edition model and I love the ice blue dial on this one.

I was suprised by how well the watch sits on my 6.25” wrist, but it does feel a bit more thick than my omega speedmaster. Nevertheless, I think it’s an awesome watch and can see why so many people love it!

What do you think of the Seiko speedtimer, and would you want one in your collection? Also, out of all the dial color option, which is your favorite?

It's a great looking watch but with the short lugs I thought it just looked too small on my wrist...my wife bought it and loves it...she wears it all the time

I think it's a great watch but too similar to a Daytona dial for me to really consider getting one. I feel like the Pogue and the Giugiaro Senna have a more unique history and style languages which I prefer. Why try to look like a Daytona when their one of their chronos was literally worn by an astronaut!?

It is beautiful but can’t be considered at the moment personally. If the case size gets reduced, it’ll be a different story. And no, I don’t have a small wrist.

I like the Speedtimer, it's a nice lookin' piece. I own one of its cousins, the Seiko SSB031 which is a similar size and also fits my wrist (which is about the same size as yours) well.

Wondering if the movements are similar? Don't have any first hand experience with the Speedtimer, but it is a fair bit more spendy than the 031

It’s fantastic.

I love it. The Daytona is not a watch I’m ever going to be able to get, but I’m really happy with my Seiko Speedy. Got the same one as you.

I had the champagne dial but traded that in when I saw the ice blue one.

I would love to have the golden dial in my collection.

But the retail price is not realistic in my opinion. It should be more around 400 or 450 Euro.

For me the total of pluses and minuses leans toward the negative. My two main dislikes are the 24Hr complication and the date window.

The 24Hr complication is useless on a chrono and is just there to make the watch look nicer. For me it's a hint that the chrono module was taken from Seiko's own meca-quartz movements and fitted to a solar, and if I'm right then I bet the chrono is also limited to one hour run.

Which might also explain the location of the date window. Maybe they used parts from other movements and some fitted better than others. Because the date window could not be in a more odd or skewed position unless it was selected at random. I honestly think that the dial would have been better without it.

So for me it's a no. I think that Seiko could and should have done a better job.

·

Yes it definitely has that Daytona look to it. Aces!👍

·

I had the panda dial variant. Regret selling that one

A no from me , not because I dislike it, just the name- the soon to be released 55th anniversary limited edition Seiko 5 is far more Speedtimer like. I've got an original Pogue and would love Seiko to rerelease it, even as a quartz. A wasted opportunity imho.

·

I enjoy the Speedtimer. And the Strapcode jubilee bracelet really takes it up another notch, imo. 👍

I like many watches but because of the position of date window. I won't even consider them. 🥲
