What Watch Would you Take in a Jet?

I wanted to make this post to explain my profile picture. But also want to ask the question: what watch would you take in the back seat of a jet trainer?

I'm an engineer, but work at a small company that utalizes a lot of our skills outside of work. From time to time I get chances to photograph and video our test airplanes from the air in a chase aircraft. Most of the time these chase planes are general aviation prop planes, but this time I got a chance to fly back seat in an L39!

Like a true nerd, I spent a while going back and forth on what watch to wear (I have a few pilots watches). I chose my Gavox Squadron in the end. I was going to wear my Sinn 104, but wanted the chrono for tracking test points. It was an incredible experience and a fun memory to look back on.

Wow! I've never seen that before. And it has Tritium tubes!

Something less obvious, perhaps this

Yeah that's really neat. I found their website. 45mm is pretty large, but that doesn't matter so much in the cockpit.

A large marine chronometer in a teak box.

Citizen blue angels or that Bremont you get if you survive ejection seat.

Nice Okeah.

Bulova JET star

Sorry, but I had to 😁

·

Killer watch. You chose wisely. I would have gone with my Sinn 857. Only one capable of pulling any kind of Gs.

I thought the wings looked like AOPA. (From a long since lapsed member…)

·

Shoot, if I ever get the chance I'd have to rock a gravity master g shock like the cromag I am!! 😏

·

In my collection, my Bulova Lunar Pilot. But I think I'd get an Avi-8 if I was flying a lot

That's such a cool watch, and with the tegemented case and bracelet, no worries from scratches.

·

Sinn 104 ST or a Stowa type A

Great choice of watch and fantastic camera too. (And thanks for your work, from a fellow airman 🙏)

I would take citizen Nighthawk

Actually, this one is probably more appropriate.

Definitely a chrono with a central minute hand. They come with unsurpassed clarity and easiness when reading a stopwatch measurement. My mighty Lemania has hundreds of military fast jet hours and never betrayed me. I simply love it. Unfortunately they are hard to find nowdays but there are few options around. Great pics, the L39 is fun!

“Airman” pilot’s watch. “DC-4” model Without the usual 24 hour dial.
