New SKX day

I'm super excited about this. It's my first Seiko. When I was a kid in the 80s I lusted after Seiko dive watches. Most likely the quartz 7548.

This is going to be my everyday watch. I do construction so it'll get beat up but I don't care. I'm actually looking forward to that look. It already has a couple scratches so got a little head start. I got the watch with no band so I bought a new jubilee bracelet. My 8-1/2" wrist (seriously) make it a little snug. What's a good source for a few extra links?

Also I ordered an original wavy ruber strap. Will that fit me?

It's SKX post day!! Enjoy!

It'll fit, but man, the OEM rubber is a stiff (but hard wearing!) band. Consider a NATO too. These look the business on NATO straps!

Hell ya brother

Hear me out, the stock rubber strap for this watch sucks.. sorry but I hate it,

However the rubber strap (also 22mm) for the Casio AMW320R is actually much more compliant (at least mine is)... and I would probably put my SKX on one of these Casio straps if I decided to give the rubber strap a go again. $13~ (2~3weeks wait however) Looked on amazon but good luck finding an actual casio one?

I just replaced the movement on my broken SKX009 today..with a NH36, this was my 1st watch I bought getting into this. Glad to have it running again.

Thanks! I'm used to the strap on a G-shock. I figured it would be about the same but apparently not. I'll definitely try our different bands. These seem like strap monsters!

Thanks for the info!! I'll try out the stock rubber first but definitely look into the Casio rubber. Yours looks awesome on a NATO! I'm going to also consider the NH36 if and when it needs servicing. Is it an eaay swap? I imagine the hands might be the hardest part. Also I'd consider a sapphire crystal.

Marc at Long Island Watch has all kinds of bracelets, straps and extra links for the SKX. You should check him out he's a great dude 🤙🏽

·

Congratulations brother!

·

Will do, thanks!!!

Congrats! There is something special about the SKX007/9 and the J version is just that little bit of icing. If the Submariner is at one end of the price spectrum, the SKX007/9 is at the extreme opposite end but they both reign supreme in their own right. The SKX represents what a dive watch should be in it's purest form and the Submariner is what a dive watch can be. Both are iconic and both are worthy in the same club (aka watch box)

Great first Seiko choice! Love that you’re going to daily it and can’t wait to see it wear in over time.

Agree with the consensus here on the OEM wavy strap. Move on from it to just about anything else. I use FKM rubber straps from Amazon on my Seiko divers and they are comfortable and wear like iron. The jubilee you got is a winner too and looks perfect on it!

Absolute strap monsters for sure! The newer Seiko rubber straps are good. If you have one of those on the way, it'll do you well. But the original OEM straps that same with the SKX's had about as much give as a 2x4...

I bought the SKX009 two times in total and will never sell it again. It is a keeper

Congratulations. Nice choice. I just picked up an SKX007 on eBay and it’s become my favorite daily wear watch.

Thanks! My brother has a Submariner that he's had over 20 years. He wears it everytime he goes out in a non work environment. I've always admired it but have been too cheap to get one myself. I'll wear this with just as much pride!!

Thanks! I'm definitely getting the feeling it's a torture device 💀 it looks so good but I can definitely move on. Looking forward to trying different straps with it. A thick natural leather one sounds good as well as NATOs

Oh, I'm not sure which it is. I think it's a new one. We'll see. Looking forward to strap swapping anyway

Thanks so much son! I owe it to you for getting me back into watches!!!

·

Thanks for the heads-up! That's funny. I'm still under the impression of my 15 yo self that Seiko is the "fancy brand" I couldn't afford when I was a kid drooling over watches in the Mall 🤣🤣🤣

That's okay, I try to love the hater anyway, just not the hate 😍
