Maen vs Tissot - What would you pick? #wwyp

Hi all,

I am new to watch crunch, this being my third post! I am really enjoying posting questions and getting opinions on references.

I am currently looking at a slim profile, mechanical/ automatic navy dress watch, one that is affordable too. My budget is always sub £700 and i rock a slim wrist. So between these two, what would you pick? #wwyp

If you are interested in Tissot, have a look at the Gentleman. I think it looks better than the PRX.

That is a clean dial, I think i’m leaning towards the prx as the textured dial wins me over. But I was unaware of the gentleman line so something to consider :)

It’s the Maen for me. PRX is a great watch but there’s so many of them around it’s nice to see something different.

The Maen dial is textured too

I am totally torn. Love your point that maen is a bit under the radar, totally agreed. Something about that dial from the prx that is really drawing me in tho.

Whilst the Maen would be my personal choice, my best advice for you is to go with your gut. Trust your gut and you’ll be happy in the end!

I don’t think you can go wrong with either. Happy hunting

Not normally a microbrand chap, but in this case it's the better watch.

More individual, better movement and more stylish imho.

I'd avoid anything with the lower grade powermatic 80 with plastic escapement myself.

I agree with you. The Gentleman is a handsome watch.

·

The PRX, esp. at 35mm, is a great choice. And while I am a Tissot fan, I would go with Maen here as it has a much better set of hands, dial, and cass shape; plus it's something different.

I have three entry-level-ish Tissots: the bigger PRX version, a Visodate, and a Ballade COSC. I've also got two MAENs: a Hudson GMT and a Brooklyn.

Tissot makes some great pieces, but while the PRX is known for looking sharp, the brand's finishing at this price point can be a little fuzzy for the money. My COSC has some extremely cool textures and details that make up for a lack of overall precision, but it simply doesn't compare to either of my MAEN watches in terms of finish.

Shortened: I like my Tissots a lot, but I'm actively delighted to put on my MAENs.

I felt the same similar when i learnt about the plastic within the prx. Although it is only two pieces and it may be stronger, it shouldn’t be on a watch with that high of a retail point! Thanks for the comment 😊

I think your comment along with others have swayed me. Maen it is 😊

PRX for 2 reasons. Big brand and Delugs integrated rubber strap. The strap gives a ton of versatility and comfort!

Maen has a new logo font now. It works better now. PRX is no go for me - fed up with this watch.

really happy to hear this, when did you purchase this? The new font does wonders!!!

Out of these two Maen. Maybe consider NG F77, also great option.

deffo a prx killer! the details on the f77 is insane, love the date window.

·

I’d stay away from Maen in general. If a problem comes up, I’d imagine Tissot would be more rock solid than a small startup like Maen.

bad experience or recommendation to stay away from startups due to customer service issues?

·

The Manhattan is a snazzy "sports" watch. It's basically a "holy trinity" steel watch on a reasonable budget.

The PRX is nice, adequate to the price, but not my thing.

Both. Maen screwed a bunch of people over when they launched on Kickstarter back in the day.

Unless you’ve read excellent feedback from them recently, I’d think twice. Same with small makers in general (e.g. Eddie with Timefactors).

·

Definitely Maen, I've got the PRX already 😁

The picture is not mine, BUT. I've been contacting MAEN support myself on that matter (asking about logo font). They have replied that newer releases will have new logo font. I would suggest check with MAEN before ordering (just to be sure), their support is quite good at answering to such inquiries. BTW just got email from MAEN, that Manhattan 37 is back in stock. I think it's perfect time to ask them about logo font.

Thank you for the feedback! i will deffo be popping them a message so really appreciate the super helpful comment :)

I'd pick the Mean if I had to do it over again. Lol. I have an OG prx and just don't wear it often even though I loved it when I bought it.

Or a ballade, it is cosc certify for the price.

·

I’d go the the Maen. Dressier and more unique 👍🏻

·

Got my Manhattan 37 over a year ago, wrote a review for watchcrunch and still stand by everything I said in it. Great piece! In fact, I'm wearing it right now. 😄

I don’t think it matters, but that’s a picture of a 40mm PRX
