Thoughts on Continuous Modding

So, my collection is holding relatively steady at around 20 watches. I've done a decent amount of modding in the past, and it has slowed down a bit, as I don't really need more watches.

Did I stop modding? No, not so much. I'm just watching if I can improve upon a watch, usually keeping an eye on watches that I wear the least, then see what components I can reuse, and what needs to be replaced in order to have a more satisfactory watch.

The above picture shows a bunch of cases that have accumulated, but I have even more dials and handsets. Just the movement transfers. There is always the temptation to spend $25 on a movement and do a build with used parts only. But then again, it's probably a watch I don't really need or want.

In the meantime a new case is on the way, to be used with a new dial I had forgotten about, and a new handset that was also on the backburner. (I think I need to stop buying parts. But it's so tempting to just buy hands or dials when you see something nice.)

Ah well, we shall see ...

Do what makes you happy. If you enjoy doing the work to have a unique watch, why not?

I'm doing it too, there's a chapter ring on the way to me and I already have everything else at home to build the seikonaut, I'm curious how it will look but the parts look very good especially the bracelet and case

Don't forget about strap changes. That can really change the feel and look.

That sounds good. I've also seen quite a number of variations of the Seikonaut that were really attractive.

Ah yes, there are plenty of options here. I would probably have to slow down in that department, too. 😉

Stop window shipping parts or you will keep being tempted

I'm not window-shopping parts, I'm shopping parts. I have dials that I have never touched, just like the one I used today. 😉

Very nice, I didn't know that the Duro could be modded. Now I really wish it had a slightly smaller diameter.

I'm just scratching the surface, but the itch is intense lol.

Better get some Gold Bond powder. In my experience that itch ain't gonna stop soon. 😀

There are not as many parts available but there are dials, hands, bezel inserts and crystals. Even saw someone changing to a sweeping secondhand quartz movement.

Lately I have bought a few service station watches to upgrade them with Swiss Ronda movements. Alloy case with glass crystal is good enough and I even made one a GMT. Fun projects that cost under $40.00 for a good watch.

Window-shipping -

Verb:

:the act of looking for and at parts, and having them miraculously show up in one's mailbox.

"I saw this nice handset and thought to myself, that would look good on...hey how'd that get here! I was just..."

Okay, I didn't think that window shipping included getting the item.
