It's obvious we all love watches. Are there any among you drawn to clocks as well? I'm drawn to grandfather clocks also. I grew up with one. The sounds of Westminster chimes reminds me of my childhood and my father, a lover of clocks, that passed away going on a decade ago. I just turned 50 and the pull towards these is like a riptide.

I used to own a mantle clock that played the Westminster chimes. It was mechanical and the reason I liked it was it reminded me of my grandparent's home. As a child I remember the sound.

A wonderful sound.
I hope to add a JLC Atmos to my mantle one day. Not sure which, but they are simply awesome.

Oh yes. Me too. Likely the only JLC I'll own. But amazing.
No floor clocks, but delicious table clocks... These are three of my six...

All are great, but I love that Seiko.

I found this for $20 in a Goodwill auction. Don't know if it works yet. I have to buy a universal key to wind it.
I just had my grandfathers mantle clock repaired. An Elliot 8 day that plays either Westminster or Whittington. It’s the first time it has rung the hour in my lifetime.

That's fantastic. I can't wait to get my father's serviced

It took me 25 years to get around to it. The quarter hour chime worked so I never thought much about it.
I inherited my Dad's Elliot clock, same mechanism as shown earlier. Needs repairing, as while winding the righthand spring it broke, key span in my fingers, which I thought momentarily were broken. This took out all the chimes. But, still keeps very good time.
Clock expert on the TV here, says that they went out of business as they were so well made..... Expensive. My Dad loved it, I will get it repaired, has to be done. 😍
Yes. Atmos clocks.
My parents were/are in to musical boxes and had/have several long cased clocks about the house. So I grew up with ticks and tocks. I track my love of watches to that time. In particular this JW Benson I bought really reminded me of a long cased clock dial, being engraved silver, blued hands, blacked numerals.
In the past I lived in a historic property and had a long cased clock myself - with a makers mark from the sussex village I grew up in. But a couple of moves later we live in a more modernist property so this was sold. I replaced it with a pocket watch from the same maker.
These days I have a very small collection of clocks.

I haven't got an Atmos yet, but I want one. Engineering marvels.
Grandfather clocks and barometers - but this is not the forum
Is there anything more German than that? A handsome clock, for sure.

Yes, but I'm sure occasionally wandering off topic won't result in jail time or the loss of one's birthday. No one else seemed to mind.

True, but my posts get flagged all the time, so logic dictates that would upset someone 😉

Ouch. Really? Thanks for the heads-up. I prefer to stay out of the principal's office. And may I say, your vintage watches are fantastic. Pure class.

Thank you - the platform favours modern over vintage, so you will have to forego the algorithm if you want to find the vintage nuggets. There are a small collective on here who prefer vintage over modern, we are easy to find, but hard to ignore.
I have a few vintage desk and travel clocks. My favorite is this French art deco desk clock from the 30s:

That is a thing of beauty.

I missed the photo of that Benson. Drop dead gorgeous. Good for you. A stunner.
Yup I’m getting a JLC atmos one day
