A friendly reminder from Snoopy & Woodstock

We get really riled up over some pretty stupid things, spend absurd amounts of money on objects we know in our hearts shouldn't cost nearly as much as they do, and generally forget that this is all just a hobby and that this is supposed to be fun.

Let this watch be our reality check. It takes itself SO much less seriously than we take ourselves while still doing the business of being a reliable, comfortable, durable timepiece. I've spent a lot more on other watches—even on the serious "pilot watches" this one thumbs its nose at—but this is the only one that truly makes me smile every time I look at it.

I don't think everyone on WatchCrunch needs THIS watch, but we all should have one that makes us feel this way.

Hard disagree, everybody on WC definitely needs this watch 😆

I couldn’t abide by the insanely long padded strap though. I picked up a Delugs shell cordovan slim strap and it’s now absolutely perfect.

Wow--that does look great! Agreed the stock strap is an inch longer than I want it to be, but it's also so soft that I haven't thought about replacing it. Thanks for the tip!

Alright, time to open eBay end check the listings! 🤣 such a fun interpretation of a flieger 😊

Curious, is the attraction specifically snoopy, or will any syndicated daily 4-cell cartoon character do?

·

Oooh

I love it

The numbers really do it for me

I do love Snoopy, though slapping a drawing of him on a $10,000 Omega to keep its astronaut cosplay marketing campaign alive doesn't tickle me nearly the same way. The numbers drawn in Charles Schulz's handwriting, the paw print on the crown, the compact size, and an MSRP less than10% of what IWC charges for their cheapest (ahem) "pilot's watch" are all part of the fun and what takes the piss out of the whole "professional tool" pretentiousness that we're fed and fall victim to.

The whole package is a great reminder that—regardless of how much we spend on them or how absurdly earnest the marketing stories get—mechanical watches in the 21st century are toys, not tools.

The details are great--a yellow-tipped hand matches Woodstock, a paw-print on the crown, and a semi-transparent caseback with another drawing of Woodstock on it (parachuting, no less). This goes a bit further than most collabs and I love it.

Yeah it was the Schultz font that did me in. When I saw that detail (on a type B Flieger no less!) I knew I had to have it.

Already looked it up... Seeing as I'll be in Geneva in a couple of weeks no impulse buys right now.

But I really like that.. Maybe a Christmas present to myself.

I love fun calligraphy. I just happen to be wearing my old omega that shares that character. It's so fun to look at.

this one's a bit small for me

This must be a sign. I was trying this on earlier today - I was being offered the set, this one and the other on nato but I was hesitant.

How did you leave without a new watch or two?

·

Here’s my Peanuts contribution. Yes, it does make me smile (especially when I wear it with the nearly worn out matching t-shirt.) 👏🏻

Couldn't agree with you more. After almost 2 yrs of waiting for the Omega Snoopy, I sort of gave up. My childhood icon however was revived recently in the most unexpected way.. a new watch face in the recent apple watch update. Proud to say the watch is on the wrist every night. You know what they say, there's always a child in all of us!

Agreed! There is something about these two releases that just works. They are joyful and definitely a better fit and finish than my other SRPK.

Thank you, I bought it for this watch. It makes it very flat on the wrist and comfortable to wear

I'll bet if Seiko made a Snoopy "pilot watch" i.e., Snoopy on the flying doghouse searching for the Red Baron, you'd like to have that one.

As it should be. I think it’s kinda gross when luxury brands use our childhood attachments to characters like Snoopy, Kermit, Mario, etc., to sell exclusive, elitist products that cost thousands. It takes something of the innocence away. $400 is still adult money, but in the world of mechanical watches, it’s pretty much entry-level so I’m cool with it.

I don't really like cartoon character watches but your Seiko Snoopy (and also the surfboard one) are just great. I'll be in real trouble if Seiko issues a quartz Peanuts line. My favorite Peanuts: Lucy being the 5c psychiatrist, Linus reading St. Luke at the Christmas play, Charlie Brown and the kite-eating tree, anything Pigpen, anything Schroeder, and of course, Snoopy hunting the Red Baron on his flying doghouse.

I would say no ;)
