Watch Reel Wednesday

Spotlight’s on for #watchreelwednesday This week, we’re racing back to ‘Le Mans’ with Steve McQueen and his quintessential TAG Heuer Monaco. 🎬🏁 Its daring square case and dynamic blue dial captured the essence of the era and McQueen’s unparalleled cool.

This is the third timepiece legend we’ve featured from the cinematic archives. Just like McQueen, the Monaco challenges conventions and stands the test of time. Which movie watch should we spotlight next? Drop your suggestions below! 🎥⌚️

I think it only stood the test of time due to the association with McQueen.

I can see that initially but Tag still makes it and it sells. Plus it wears better than one might think

That and he wore his Sub on set when not shooting. I have it, it is very unwearable at times. On the chopping block.

Not a Tag. Before Tag was involved with Heuer

Is it the diameter? For me, the Le Mans falls in the fugly category but I’ve always been intrigued by it.

Diameter, thickness, and balance. It’s a nice watch to look at, wearing is a different story. Maybe if I had a 7.5” wrist, but it’s like wearing a block on the wrist.

Great post. I think McQueen’s Hanhart better captures his cool factor, fwiw.

I tried it on and I have an 8 inch wrist. Couldn’t connect with it right away. It’s like that don’t meet your heroes cliche folks associate with some watches.

Hideous monstrosity that would have faded into obscurity if it wasn't for SMcQ imho.

Even then, it's story pales into insignificance compared to the real first automatic chronograph, the Seiko.. 🚀👍🏻

As someone with a big wrist it wore comfortably for me and a piece i will be adding to my collection

I’ll be selling mine soon if you want it. :-)

I do have 7.5" wrists, and own the Gulf addition. Had never considered it until I tried it on. For me, it is awesome. Yes it is large for the dimensions, but I bet you can tell what it is from across the room.

That is awesome. 7.5” seems to be the sweet spot.

I want to own this watch.

I like it and would definitely consider one in the future. It was just before the 70's fashion with stupidity flared high waist trousers platform shoes and integrated bracelets.... 😁

·

I own the latest gulf edition and love it. Yes, its not to everyone's taste, but it's a bold piece and it stands out from the crowd. 💪

I also get puzzled by the hatred people show towards certain pieces/brands. Chill out for gods sake 😎. I appreciate most watches, because I'm fascinated by them and appreciate them. However there are watches that I don't like and wouldn't buy. 🍻

Agreed, very nice watch but it's a proper brick on the wrist.

·

Poor guy ran out of gas soon after filming the "Getaway" with Ali - a true actor, legend, watch AND Porsche enthusiast. The dude basically financed the entire 24 hours of LeMans movie AND did his own driving...RIP

I wonder if any of his watches ever come up for auction?

This is one of the few #tagheuer watches I enjoy. Wouldn't mind having a Monaco.
