Dirty Dozen Watch

Thinking of getting a Dirty Dozen Watch from WWII. Are they worth purchasing? And if so best place to find them?

I had a Cyma one briefly. It was obviously very cool, wore a lot like the Hamilton Murph. Do you have other vintage pieces? Just factor in potential servicing costs and set your expectations accordingly.

This would be my first vintage piece. Love the history aspect of the watch itself

You can try out some of the homage Dirty Dozen watches Balthany or Merkur make to see if you match with the style. Very affordable and great as a trial watch

Given your wrist size I doubt it would get much wear as the originals are small. So definitely handle one before spending what is quite a lot of money for not a lot of watch but lots of military history.

You can try the look with a wide range of modern homages (loads) or reissues (Vertex and Timor) but many of these are small too in being faithful to the originals. I think Vaer do a 40mm with a Swiss movement but that’s $1k!

Obviously AliExpress has heaps of choice of homages some mechanical some quartz and some larger than the originals. A much cheaper way to try the look and see if it grabs you.

Note ATP (Army Trade Pattern) watches - stock pic below - are pretty much the same but with a cream/tropical dial instead of black. Not as collectible as the dirty dozen then can often be found for 25%-50% of the price of dirty dozen watches. But they suffer from the same sizing issue. Again homages abound.

Prefer the ATP, that's the one worn for the majority of the war.
