Junghans Max Bill Mega Solar

I posted this on the "What’s on your wrist today?" section, but thought I'd make a post about it for discussion.

Junghans dont seem to get mentioned on here a lot, but I think the solar charging, radio control, and bauhaus design make this a pretty nice watch.

It's the first nice quartz I've owned, and wanted to see if anyone else agreed with me.

What are your thoughts?

I always loved the Max Bill. Still looking to replace it after I have mine to a friend. Curious, where is the solar cell on the dial?

It's under the watch face, so you can't see it. Enough light passes through to charge the watch but without it having to show.

I've always been attracted to the Max Bill design, and with a radio controlled solar charged movement, I may just have to add one of these to my collection. I wasn't aware that this existed, so I checked out the Junghans web site to learn more. Very impressive accuracy of 8 seconds per year, even without the radio sync.

The only drawback is the crytal. They do a sapphire version, but its in a grey dial rather than white. The plexiglass feels a bit cheap especially as the watch is so light, but I have noticed on their site they say "optional retrofitting with sapphire crystal" which is interesting.

My husband doesn't 'get' these at all. They're desperately boring to him.

I didn't think too much about them until I saw them in person and thought they just looked beautiful. I think it's the way that dial and crystal spread right to the edge 😍

Absolutely love the Max Bill, and would love this Mega Solar even more if they could just provide a slightly more assuring WR! Is it too much to ask for a minimum of 10 bar and a screw down crown? Yes yes yes, I know that 3 bar and a push pull can get me through hand washing and maybe the dishes, but it’s just my personal hang up.

I quite like it as it is, especially with the solar cells hidden away, but I would not really want to pay more than £500 for a watch like this. Just-wondering about the radio-control: does this act like a world-timer and adjust to the local time when you move into a different timezone?

Never seen a Junghans solar before. Very interesting and a great looking piece!

Great piece.  I owned the mega minus the solar for a bit.   Loved the way the watch wears and looks, but unfortunately I dont have a great signal at my residence.

I find most of these German watches to be very boring.

Love the Junghans Max Bill, original and the Chronoscope are just perfectly designed. Also I was thinking that if if form and function were followed then quartz would be a better option for Max Bill today.

·

How do you like this? Not many reviews on the mega solar.

The "grey" dial is closer to white than grey. Think a very light grey or an off white.
