Hi all. Just started my journey. These are my first two. Trying to decide my 3rd

Hi all. New here, and new to watches in general. I think I'm off to a fairly decent start. I'm thinking my next might be a Grand Seiko snowflake. I'd love the SLGA007 (Lake Suwa), but it's a bit out of reach for now

I would say a Longines Hydroconquest. Its a great diver and it looks soo good.If you have a small wrist I would say get a 39mm one if not there are other sizes available. There is a two tone option too.

·

Great start indeed.  Have you had the BB long enough for the silver to show signs of tarnishing?

Very nice, but I think the dive watch angle is covered by the Tudor for now.

I think whilst the collection is in its infancy I'd like everything to be different from each other. If it grows, maybe I'll start doubling up on styles.

Thanks for the recommendation though

No, only a few days. I have to say I love it more than the speedmaster.

Any signs of tarnishing will be dealt with by a nice polish. It looks too nice to let it tarnish. From what I've seen they do clean up ok once they start to go.

Grand Seiko is a great way to go for great dials and little more color in your collection! I would definitely recommend going and trying on as many different variations as possible because they have many hidden gems that pop out of no where and pictures do no justice! Cheers 🍻

If I was looking for a BB58 today, I'd have a hard time choosing between the various options. I picked up the original black dial version with gilt hands and markers in 2019 when it was the only option available. I really like it, but prefer my Speedy 3861 sapphire sandwich (I have a thing for chronographs).

As far as growing your collection with something different, have you considered something along the lines of the Cartier "Santos De Cartier"? This was the latest addition to my collection, and I absolutely love it. Dressy and sporty at the same time, and a unique look as well.

Fantastic start!

You've got dive and tool watch covered.  I know that everyone is enamored with the GS Heritage Collection, but if the Minamo appeals to you because of the dial, but it's out of reach given they're all sold out, etc., etc., then the SBGY007 Omiwatari might fit the bill.

  • Lake Suwa dial, just like the Minamo
  • Perfect proportions at 38.5mm diameter and lug-to-lug of 43.7mm
  • Spring Drive with 72 hour power reserve
  • Thickness of only 10.2mm!!!

Why not consider a dress watch like the Omiwatari?  It's definitely my next purchase.

·

Nice grand seiko dress watch and your collection will be complete with all bases covered except maybe a nice quartz watch to use as a beater and to set time on your auto's 👍

Beautiful!

I've found some SLGA007's on Chrono24 that arent stupidly priced, but being out of the EU now means fairly heavy import prices. The only one I've seen in the UK was £9.5k (~$13k). Maybe one day.....

The SBGY007 is also very nice

·

You have an iconic Chrono and diver. Awesome start!

The obvious choice next is a dressier white dial. Off the top of my head from lowest to highest price:

Junghans max bill.

Nomos ludwig.

Omega DeVille.

Cartier Santos dumont

Rolex Datejust (my choice, 5 digit)

JLC master ultra thin moon

I love the Santo's place in the history books, but the aesthetic isnt for me. That being said I've never seen one in the flesh, so maybe I'll be a convert.

I can totally understand that. When I first started collecting, I didn't really like any Cartier designs, including the Santos. My tastes have changed in the 3-4 years that I've been collecting, and I now find myself liking designs that I previously wouldn't have ever considered previously. Most watches look much better in person than they do in photos, but if you don't really like the overall "look" of the watch in photos, I suspect that you'd probably feel the same in person. Life would be pretty boring if we all liked the same thing.

Luckily there is no shortage of wonderful watch options out there to choose from.

·

That is a perfect start. I would look into H. Moser & Cie for a sport watch, maybe the Pioneer. Whatever you do choose, have a blast!

·

I would argue that the Cartier Drive is a better dress watch option than the Santos 😊

Superb start to your collection, amazing pieces!

·

You are off to a perfect start.

I mean, if you ended your collection right there, it would still be an outstanding one.

Seriously!

·

Consider something not round, like a Cartier Tank or a JLC Reverso. It may fill in the dress watch category as well.

·

What an incredible start!  Hard to make humble recommendations when you're coming out of the gate that strong.

Agree with many here - you have two icons in the chrono and the diver.  I like that you're thinking something dressier.  GS is an obvious choice - blue or white dial, can't go wrong.

I'm projecting my own desires here, but a dressy moonphase would be a great add.

Also, I've been eyeing the Baume & Mercier Clifton ref. 10519.  COSC certified, huge power reserve, display caseback, and what I think is a beautiful two-tone on a rich leather strap...all coming in around $4k.

Happy Hunting!

·

Great start. congrats.
Echoing others I know, but white dial dress watch would be cool. I recently got the Santos medium and really like it. I would say, don't write if off until you try it on the wrist.

maybe also something like the more dressing IWCs would be a good option, Portugieser or Portofino?

·

Get the Snow flake.... that will give you a iconic trio. Don't sleep on a beater, those are always fun.  Also a true GMT  fora different complication like a Zenith

·

I love my OG bb58 but the 925 is really tempting.  Great collection.

·

Not a bad first 2

Agree 100%. I own the snowflake, can't go wrong! It's nice to have a dress watch for weddings and special occasions. White is versatile. The omiwatri is also white with the same dial texture as the Slga007

Did you decide on the PVD for looks, for resistance to scratches, or another reason all together?

Did you decide on the PVD for looks, for resistance to scratches, or another reason all together?

It was a combination of both aesthetics and scratch resistance.  I had originally been wanting the blue dial version, but when I saw the black dial in person, it won me over. Of all the available variations, it looked to me like the one that could straddle the line between dressy and sporty the best. I had also been hesitant to buy a Santos based on the fact that all of the photos seemed to show scratched bezels, and reviews mentioned the bezels as being scratch magnets. The ADLC bezel appeared to be a potential help with that, and I thought it really suited the black dial (which is really two different tones of dark gray)

·

Thanks for the feedback. @JenniElle (who I assume is the same youtuber) just posted a video about the skeletonized ADLC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRaHaBoJzSM)... great looking watch. Not sure if I have the hutzpah to pull it off, though.

So.... you can revoke the "a$$hat" status.

I just took delivery of the SLGA007 😀

Probably paid over the odds from Chrono24 but I just had to have it to complete the collection.

It's absolutely stunning!!
