Reflecting on how I got my first Rolex!

I asked my girlfriend (wife now) to pick up a TT midsize Datejust while visiting her uncle in Zurich.

In her possession was, my $1700 to buy the watch, but the watch was $500 more. I was firm not to pay over that amount, but she returned home with the watch as her Father payed the difference ( I settled the debt soon after)

This was 34 years ago and we were 20 years old, but what a GREAT MAN he was to have made it happen and not give his daughter any static that this was an expensive purchase at that time. I’ve been so honoured by his grandeur that my fondness and respect grew quickly for this man, it then later evolved to a healthy loving relationship.

Fast forward…I’m so greatful to have had such a great father in-law as his generosity and love was felt daily.

This first Rolex story means a lot to me and I thought I’d share it with a close circle of WATCH CRUCH FRIENDS.

Thanks CRUNCHERS!

P.S. the watch has been serviced a few times, including a new crystal and dial.

She is beautiful, so tender, passionate loving care for her comes with such ease and pleasure… the wife and the watch 😉

Thanks for commenting!

It looks well worn and loved. Goes to show how watches are not only amazing pieces of craftsmanship and design, but can also be special mementos that are more important than the price and prestige ❤️

Fantastic watch but a truly touching story to top it. This is the reason I love the hobby so much. Memories are constantly accumulating, and the fact that 34 years later you have a beating and beautiful piece to commemorate makes it all the more special.
