Updated Collection

Finally filled out my 8 watch box with all watches that have a special meaning to me. The Daytona, the Datejust and the Submariner were all my dads. The blue Panerai was my first one. The Panerai chronograph and the Zenith Chronomaster Revival all share the El Primero movement with my Daytona. The Ming is just cool and the Omega is my birth month and year watch.

Yes it is. My dad bought it in ‘73 and it made its way back to me through my uncle.

Nice collection! How long did it take you to build this collection.

All of the Rolex’s were my dads. All purchased through an AD. Datejust was ‘73 Daytona was ‘99 and the Sub was ‘03. He’s since upgraded so I got the hand me downs 😂. Most of the others I’ve acquired over the last few years. Both Panerai I bought in the last month.

I just learned about Ming recently. Is it hard to obtain one?

I used to follow Ming when he was a photographer. He took incredible pictures of buildings, cars and watches. He was quite the photojournalist. Many luxury brands hired him and he loved watches so much he decided to make his own. I think he does a great job with his releases. The style is definitely different than typical watches.

I wear the Submariner almost every day. I own a bagel bakery and it’s the only one I don’t worry about banging around. It’s a true tool watch. I also wear the blue Panerai quite a bit. The others I switch around when I go out or on vacation. The Panerai chronograph I just received the other day. My collection is all over the place but each one that I have has a story or a connection that makes my collection make sense to me.

Funny thing is I met someone who is a part time watch dealer and he got me the 2 Panerai. The other day he told me he had a real special one for me. Only made 150 of them. I knew what he was going to send me and lo and behold he sent pictures of the Liberty!! I sent him back a picture of the Liberty on my wrist. He said I should have known you already had it.

Is there some advice you would give to someone who wants to start a watch collection?

Is there some advice you would give to someone who wants to start a watch collection?

My advice would be to buy what interests you and not what’s in style or for the hype. Much of my collection are watches that I coveted over the years. While I love a new watch, I find researching and searching for a vintage or neo vintage piece to be as much fun as finally buying it. Sometimes I’ll learn everything there is to know about a watch and find the one that I want only to pass because the search is then over. It’s a crazy hobby. If I have everything I ever wanted then I have nothing left to do. I also try to mix up my collection. A diver, chronograph, dress watch, different complications and movements. I also love different materials whether they be stainless steel, gold, titanium and even plastic. The story of the watch is as important to me as anything else. Did someone give it to me? Was there a special occasion I made the purchase for? I hope this helps. Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions.
