If a Rolex Explorer and a Flieger had a baby? Looking for recommendations!

I’m in search for an every day, durable, easy to read watch and I’m looking for recommendations. The look I’m after is something in the pilot/field genre. I’d say something like if a Rolex Explorer and a German Flieger had a baby (but maybe on the casual side). I tend to like non mainstream watches as well.

Ideal characteristics:

-37mm-40mm

-Automatic or manual wind

-100m or more water resistance

-20mm strap

-Black, white, or silver dial

-Preferably under $2000 usd (I’d spend a little more if I love it)

-Sapphire crystal

-Not too thick or heavy so it’s comfortable to wear all day.

I have a couple in mind but I’d like to see what people recommend before I name a few that I’m considering. Thanks!!

Sinn 556.

Damasko DK30 if you want an upgraded movement.

I think of a few Longines that may look good for you. I wore my Conquest Classic today, and there are a few other new ones that might fit.

Sinn 556.

I actually did buy one of these, but sadly I didn't love it and returned it. Something about just didn't resonate with me. I hate to say this, but it was almost too shiny that it looked almost like plastic if that makes any sense at all haha.

I've had Longines on my radar for awhile but every time I go look at them in person, I always tend to pass. Can't put my finger on why that is tho.

I think the Lorier Falcon III meets most of your criteria except for the size as the Falcon is only 36mm...

Pretty good looking watch. I’m not opposed to a 36mm as I own a smaller sized Baltic, but for this particular everyday use case I think I’d prefer something closer to 38mm.

The hands to remind me of one of the watches I’ve been considering tho. The Serica Field Watch.

These are two that I’m considering but not having seen either in person it’s hard to know. Ya know? And I’m still open to suggestions.

Hit it right on the nose!

I’m a big fan of the weiss though retail prices have increased over the years.

1mm off at 36mm, but this Vaer may have the look of an explorer / flieger.

Some minor cost cutting is what I sense but still decent watches at a certain price point.

Forstner

Comes in black or white dial, similar to WWII MOD standards.

I would agree this such a good shout

Yes - that's true. Forgot about the crystal being plexi instead of sapphire

·

I genuinely think I have your next watch found. Severely under budget and from a major manufacturer. Almost as always, pic lifted from the web. Watch goes well on bracelet, leather, and nato. Have fun.

This has definitely caught my eye in the past. I shy’d away from the 36mm but maybe I’ll have to take a chance and see what it looks like on wrist.

I agree, Weiss prices have shot up a lot.

The Serica is a super cool watch...I have been tempted many times by it. Just haven't pulled the trigger.

What is quite funny (and sad for Serica) is that you can find a dead-on knockoff of the Serica on Aliexpress.

I guess that is success when you are a microbrand selling a relatively inexpensive watch and the Chinese are ripping off your design almost immediately.

Interesting, I didn’t know they were cloning any micro brands. That’s unfortunate for Serica, but at their price point I’d still buy from them.

I do like the Murph. Maybe a little too similar to my current every day tho? But maybe that’s why I like it.

Laco Augsburg comes in 39mm

Image

I do like Laco, especially their new Pro series of watches, but for some reason I don't like the blue outline on the hands. If they were black outline then I'd buy. I also prefer 20mm straps as all of my watches are 20mm. I know, I'm picky 😢

Seiko SRPG

39mm wears small and comes in different colours/ finishings

20mm strap size is a field watch but numbered like a pilot.

Or an Archimede outdoor

200m WR, 39mm ickler case and from a company known for making amazing Flieger watches

That Archimede is interesting. Never heard of them. Gonna have to check it out. Thanks. I really dig the lesser known stuff.

I think I need to see one of these in person to justify the price. Do you know the difference between the mark XV and the newer models?

I did my research on these older model IWC Mark models, and man, I really do like this Mark XV, but not that easy to find in good condition for a decent price. Also that 19mm strap width is kind of a killer for me.
