He wanted a 5980/1R; they got a lawsuit instead.

You know what they say: If you have to ask how much a Patek Philippe costs, you can’t afford it. But what if you can afford it, and you still can’t get it?

That’s what happened to Ali Rezaei, a Bay Area man who wanted to buy a rose gold Patek Philippe Nautilus, a watch so rare and expensive that it makes Rolex look like Timex.

He went to Shreve & Co., a fancy jewelry store in San Francisco, and asked for the watch. But they said no. He had to buy other stuff first. Lots of other stuff.

So he did. He bought four other Patek Philippe watches and a diamond bracelet, spending more than $220,000 in total. He thought he was getting closer to his dream watch.

But he wasn’t. He was getting scammed. Shreve & Co. lost its Patek dealer status, and Rezaei never got his watch.

Now he’s suing them for fraud, breach of contract, and being mean.

This is a sad story of how the luxury watch industry is broken. It’s also a hilarious story of how one man got played by a bunch of snooty salespeople.

What do you think? Do you feel sorry for Rezaei or Shreve & Co.? Do you care?

On principle I want to feel sorry for him but also if you have the kind of money to buy 4 Pateks and diamond jewellery just for the chance of maybe being able to buy an even more expensive Patek, my sympathy is pretty limited by default

Yeah I did wonder if he had that much money, why not buy secondary?

I think most of us will never understand what it's like to have such an amount of money. These people think and speak in a language I don't understand.

So for mr. Rezaei to spend all that money to get to his grail watch, that's his perogative. We all heard the stories and I think most of us don't have this much disposable income. If we find ourselves in the position to buy THE watch, we want to spend our money on that watch, and nothing else.

But that's not the position that mr. Rezaei is in.

He made an agreement with the store, an agreement of which the store knew, that they couldn't hold up their end.

Yeah, I can understand his frustration. Glad he's taking action.

I feel sorry for Rezaei, although I don't understand how someone so clearly successful would fall into such a trap. Or he inherited his wealth or won the lottery, because if he had come to such wealth with his clever mind, he would have known that for 220k he could buy a plane ticket directly to Switzerland to the Pateks company, and there they would sell him the watch directly or recommend a reliable source and he would still have left few bucks to buy PRX in every color 😁

Rezaei can sell those 4 pateks then he can buy that grail Patek he always wanted from grey with extra money left (much more than what he spent).

I don’t know how he was managed to win 4 pateks and not get a nautilus. But still Most pateks second hand value are higher than retails.

For me it’s a shitty win for Rezaei. He might lose the battle with the AD but wins the war (so as Patek) 😂😂

Karma is a bitch at life review time , oh it’s a real thing …

Thats one way to seperate an idiot from his money.

·

On one hand, good for him for suing the dealer. I know lots of us are steamed about this "buy something else and we put you in our waiting list."

On the other hand....if you have that much money just Google your nearest Patek boutique, you nitwit!

Perhaps he really wanted that one watch.

It's very odd that a man would want rose gold, but some skin tones seem to like it. The AD is a criminal and deserves all they get, except for the money.

I never claimed otherwise. Still his fault, for falling for it.
