Do you have an "In-House" Watch?

This summer has been a revelation to me. No, we still haven't found aliens. And I'm sad about that!

Something has become crystal clear to me during this summer. I found this concept of an 'in-house' watch. What does that mean? I mean a watch that I usually (or always) wear inside the house. (Actually, it's a condo but nitpit).

Before, it used to be a variety of watches in my collection. After all, variety is the spice of life eh? So I would happily swap out watches for various reason. Until this summer. Wow!

Image

Here is Southern Cali the weather hardly varies. It shifts from slight cold, warm, your getting warming, and holy it's cold enough for a light jacket! But this summer ..

I must have been hit by gamma rays. Because I started swelling like the Green Monster. In the morning, I'm Bruce Banner. Late afternoon, Hulk Smash! And in the evening, who knows? Maybe down to Betty size petite.

So now, I have a constant 'in-house' watch. And it's the Monta Noble. And it's a beautiful watch. The case back is lovely!

Image

But that's not the reason. It's the amazing bracelet! It bends, it folds, it performs miracles. Somehow, it always manages to stay fitted to my semi green wrists. The fully articulated links are a sight to behold. It could teach a yoga class!

Image

And the final secret. The on the fly adjustment clasp. It's a thing of elegant design. So easy to handle, and work. It glides like an Olympic skater. And I adjust that thing easily 4 or 5 times a day! Hulks got to Hulk.

Image

So let me hear from you. Do you also have an 'in-house' watch? It's the watch that's ol dependable. You can count on it to feel comfortable, like a well worn sneaker. And if you do, what's your reason for that watch?

That’s a gorgeous watch. It’s definitely nice to have a comfy watch to wear at home. On the fly adjustment is such a great feature.

·

Your Monta is your “house” watch? 😂 We’re living in different worlds. I just got mine recently and it’s the pinnacle of my collection. I can confirm the bracelet is crazy good and on the fly toolless adjustment is amazing. This made me good research aftermarket retrofit options for my other bracelets. Haven’t found anything good except for a diver’s extension.

It didn't start out that way :-). The Monta was one of my first 'luxury' buys. But the bracelet is so damn comfortable; it saved my life during this summer haha! Cheer to your Monta, it's going to make you happy.

And if you find other aftermarket bracelets, pls let me know!

It's quickly becoming a must have for me. I look at other watches and think 'but does it come with a quick adjust?". It's moving to the top of my criteria. I don't know if that's good or bad haha.

I got to meet Neil, one of the founders and the first thing he said “that’s going to be the best bracelet you’ve ever worn.” Told him that’s a bold statement; he then went on getting into the details of the watch and bracelet. For the min I had it on, it was very comfy.

Totally!

For me, it's a Farer Carnegie.

A watch for wearing around the home. Enough water resistance to wash the kids and a chronograph is super useful for timing dinner!

I didn't believe it either actually. It felt great but I loved my other watches too. My Explorer fits great! But then I discovered summer :-0. I had to adjust that watch with a tool. And it was was the Monta all the time. Now, it's my house mate.

I love Farer! I have their Stanhope II. The strap on that is thick and one of my fav. I've never seen that color before on their dials, it looks great!

I know the feeling. When it gets warm in NYC my wrist will expand. But when it’s humid, wearing a couple of my watches is a nightmare. Hmmm, maybe that’s why I wear my bb58 often. It seems to be fine regardless of the weather and not uncomfortable.

·

You wear Monta 'in-house' because it is pink. That is how i summarized your post.

You are good writer.

I have Monta Noble. Wait until you want to regulate the watch, it is dificult to find the tool.

OEM straps and bracelets are stupid expensive. How do they justify those prices? I went to the Monta website and they sell a curved end leather strap for over $200 😑

Thank you. A girl finally walked up to me and asked about my watch. She said wow that almost looks pink. I said that's because it is pink. We've been together ever since. Ok, that last part is BS.

That's surprising since it does not have the T fit clasp yet. I'm waiting on that .. but it's good to hear you've had such success. I do think Tudor bracelets are tops.

·

I work from home, so I really don't get out much during the week so I guess all my watches are indoor watches. I have a very large collection of Timex watches (over 100) so I try to wear a different one every few days and I also have a bedtime watch, one that has indiglo so I can see what time it is if I wake up and it's still dark.

·

Times like these I envy those with watches that have crazy comfy bracelets. I wanna wear bracelets without drowning in sweat too! Uwaa...😭

So maybe something to cheer you up - significant evidence of basic Alien life has been found on an exoplanet! A biosignature chemical only known to exist when produced by microscopic life, was identified: https://www.livescience.com/space/exoplanets/james-webb-telescope-sees-potential-signs-of-alien-life-in-the-atmosphere-of-a-distant-goldilocks-water-world

Of course, scientists won't ever commit to 100% undeniable proof. But extraterrestrial farts definitely sounds compelling...

PS. I have an awful 'homage'/FAKE Patek that I sometimes wear about the house. But would never wear in public in case:

  1. Someone sees it and judges me for wearing a terrible fake..

  2. Someone sees it and thinks it's real and chops my hand off for it..

I would say this neo-vintage quartz Yema Superman Worldtime, found in a pretty poor condition in the depth of Ebay, is my "comfort watch", or home watch.

It comes from a dark era for Yema, when this formerly innovative French brand had been saved from bankruptcy by Seiko, and was surviving plugging run of the mill Seiko quartz movements into rip-offs of Rolex models.

The result has zero street cred in the horology world, the GMT hand is widely off the mark and cannot be decoupled from the hour hand, the bezel action is crap and the crown knurling was so sharp I had to polish it to death to make the watch wearable.

But it radiates 1990's good French vibes, YEMA is a brand my father wore when I was a teenager and it's so unpretentious that it's proper fun.

That's the joy of having been into watches for 10 years now, I don't care that much about scoring IG points with a Nautilus or a Daytona.

·

What an enjoyable post. That's some very fine writing sir! I tend to rotate my watches. But I wonder, since you are a self-proclaimed artsy farsy dude, do you have watches that are not so conventional in style as Monta. I'd love to see them 👍

·

In house Im rocking a Casio. Accurate, comfy, beater-worthy and fun. Changes often so this week AE1000w a world timer with a steel Casio OEM band.

Bulova is a brand I respect. I really wish they would do a smaller lunar pilot.

I also have a Bulova Frank Sinatra tribute watch I like to wear when I sing 😁.

This is my smallest watches. I've had it since I was a teenager in the 90s. I actually prefer larger watches. They fit my large frame a bit better

I can’t believe they have their own bedroom. That’s some lucky pets.

of course no, its my bedroom. i slept with them everyday 😂

I have a 6 1/2 inch wrist so I tend to stick to dress watch sizes. I'm lucky since vintage watches are generally smaller by today's standards.

Casio is my #1 brand. The thing about their watches for me is that they are so good, I don't feel the need to buy more Casios haha.

Thank you so much! My college profs used to say that I should write a book. Especially my Japanese film study prof.

I do have a taste for more colorful designs, not Invicta level, but definitely my eyes are drawn to creativity. I'll post them with watch reviews.

Actually, I love that watch. Sometimes there is a bizarre comfort in knowing a watch is marred in design or condition. I have a Steinhart myself for that purpose. It's so liberating to know that I can't damage the watch any further haha.

Yes! I've been following the advancements from the James Webb and it's been nothing less than revolutionary! But I'd not read that .. thanks for the article. I'll take alien traces in any form haha.

As for that brands, yes, I have a Monaco homage from them that's surprisingly high quality (for the price).

Yes, I have an in-house watch. Mine is the CW C63 39mm Sealander. It’s very comfortable to wear.

Mmm, let’s see two minutes per side and they are medium rare! Perfect!

Image

You have excellent taste, in both watches and steaks haha! I used to cook suos vide for my steaks. And insisted on F. 128!! Now, it's the air fryer for me. And CW is a brand that I still need to explore.

My Timex Standard. Light weight and it has 100m WR so I can do all daily activities with it.

Image

Yeah, I have a Timex GMT with a jangly bracelet that is amazingly comfortable. And I don't understand why.

I live in the UK where it is cold and wet for eleven months of the year, and warm and wet the other month

I do but it's also the watch I take off the least and that's my GShock DW5600. It just works, plus I use it often for timers.
