Help with a GMT

Alright Crunchers, I need a "hand".

I am in need (well, want) of a GMT but I am cheap and picky. So after talking with my friend @swim97 , I figured I could ask the group.

Only stipulations: mechanical movement, Stainless, diver, and sub $600 (I know, not asking much huh?).

TIA

5.7 Update - Lorier and Zelos are neck and neck. Love everyone's thoughts on this! Will update as I get closer.

The Seiko 5 GMT divers series (SSK001, 003, 005) are well-regarded and fit the stipulations you mentioned: Seiko 5 Sports broadens its horizons with a new GMT series. (seikowatches.com)

Also look at Lorier's Hydra and Hyperion

Seiko 5 SSK. 👍

·

Your wrist is just a little smaller than mine.

I do really like the Seiko but it wears bigger than the SKX and is also quite a thick watch. I still rate it for originality and value.

But the best I have come across - for looks, value and wearability - is the San Martin (stock pick below). It wears much better than the Seiko and in particular is thinner. The beads of rice bracelet is very good and better balances the watch than the Seiko bracelet.

They can be had from https://sanmartinwatches.com/shop/new-arrivals/san-martin-sn0116-g-gmt/ but I suspect will be cheaper on AliExpress.

Enjoy the search.

I like to use the term "cost effective"!

I have been toying with getting a NH34 and building it myself, but I don't need another hole to fall down (I have a OMEGA pocket watch and Seiko Bullhead chrono on my bench now. And then there is the OMEGA marriage watch idea and....).

I love the qualification. A great deal indeed!

Yeah that Strat-o-Timer with the white dial would be it! Just the 1k tag, ugh.

·

I'll make you one. $450-$500 CAD Shipping Included

·

Maybe you could stretch your budget, if so this Zelos blew me away. On the fly adjusting bracelet that feels better than my Grand Seiko, ridiculous lume, real GMT movement

I like #jackmason a lot. I am not a huge fan of Texas (don't come at me ya'll), so I have shied away from them. As you know I like color, which is why I like that Magnolia. But the others are great too.

The #nodussector is a cool option that I think is a bit more unique for a GMT. I really like that purple dial along with the light grey and blue ones.

Their contrail dial is great too.

Adding to the microbrands that have been mentioned, look at the Traska Venturer

I have seriously looked at these too! Esp since I have a fondness for Bremont and it bears a striking resemblance!

Just go down the rabbit hole......it's worth it???

Too tempting..

I built this one myself. Using the standard hands it currently comes to around $81 in parts from AliExpress. (Okay, it's not exactly a diver.)

·

Very clean! If I go down the rabbit hole, I was thinking doing a Military SMP 300 style. I have seen a few SMPs that one of my favorite IGers posted a while back (plus I am a HUGE OMEGA fanboy).

·

I've built a few inexpensive ones.

GMT's, expecially traveler GMT's, are expensive. 😂
