I quit smoking last night

Yes, it finally happened.

I went to my local corner shop just before closing, and after 10 years of being a loyal customer buying every kind of dubious, tax-dodging, out-of-date, and smuggled packets of cigarettes which he had to offer me, he finally made me pay the full price for my Rothmans.

I was shocked, horrified, and astounded in equal amounts. It took me almost half a can of Monster energy to recover.

It went down something like this:

"That's it, I quit!" I said. And I haven't returned since he closed the shutters.

It's now 7.30am, and the shop has been open for an hour and a half already, but I'm staying strong and will not give in. It's the principle of the thing.

You know what this means though?

"Just think of all the money you'll save!" says my wife. "That'll be £6000 a year if you don't buy cigarettes anymore!" She then went on to suggest that I don't drink 4 Monsters a day either, but I still have to live! Oh God, please let me live!

But if I don't buy cigarettes, I can afford to buy more watches... REALLY EXPENSIVE WATCHES to flex on everybody with... you know the ones, right?

Will I though? Will I really though?

No.

😜

I've simply muted and blocked the maximum number of people I could who post Rolexes on this forum. 100 in each case. 200 in total. I reached the limit, but it feels so good!

Out of sight and out of mind, Just like the 3 ashtrays full of cigarette ends that I've thrown in the wheelie bin, along with my lighters, boxes of matches, and the ashtrays themselves.

I really want a cigarette now.

9.00 am I reckon………

When the monsters in the blood stream hit max saturation point🤣

Seriously when I stopped it was hard to break the habit, however I actually enjoy the odd cigarette now especially when I’m out drinking🍻

Keep it up 👍🏻

I gave them up 5 years ago. It was an odyssey through madness which lasted 9 months and permanently changed my personality. Enjoy!

I’m glad there was a watch in that story, seemed like a AA meeting for cigarettes 😂

·

Bear in mind that if you do return to smoking it'll be even more than you did previously. That's what happened to me. Because I'm an idiot. Bon courage mon ami.

There's always at least one watch in every story. 😜

Well done!I I properly gave up about 5 years ago and vape now, yes, I know I've swapped one thing for another but I spend £30 / month now rather than about £15 / day. I've not seen any savings though hahaha. I do fall off the wagon once in a while and buy a pack of smokes but then am back on the vape again.

Don't beat yourself up if you smoke the odd one, it's a tough one to beat.

Oh, I'm not going to buy one. I just need to be able to run again and not be out of breath after I rip one. 😜

Apparently the nicotine will leave your brain after 3 days, hang in there ! If you can get to the weekend there is light at the end of the tunnel. I would so love you to get a Rolex, man I would I hound you !

Well I'm still pulling for you. There is a big hump to get over the first few days. And it takes committing to what amounts to a lifestyle change. But it is worth it in money, health, and eventually the way you feel everyday, especially if you exchange it with sort of a fitness lifestyle. If you do decide to try again to quit, here's to a new you!! And you can laugh at the shop owner when you walk by everyday.

I quit smoking many many years ago, and the weird thing I have smoked a handful of cigarettes since I quit and I absolutely cannot stand it. Good luck on staying strong.

I also started vaping about five years ago. It’s still more of a physical habit or routine that I can’t seem to give up but at least it’s much cheaper and I’m not stinking up my house and car anymore.

Don’t worry about it. There’s no “only way to stop” find what works for you. Publicly shaming yourself on here may help 🤣🤣 Good luck.

I swapped to vaping. It will probably kill me just as quickly but it only costs £5 a week.

Congratulations,it’s hard at first.Totally worth it!!!! How much is a pack of smokes? It’s $12(approximately) in SoCal. Your health will also improve.
