Screw-down chrono pushers - convenient or not?

As the title says - do you find screw-down chrono pushers to be convenient or not? They contribute to the water resistance, but I find them a bit off-putting for daily use. Never had one but I think it’s not really user-friendly to unscrew them everytime you want to use chrono function.

What does your wearing experience say?

I have them on the Tudor black bay chronograph and to be honest, they don't bother me. That's because I didn't buy the chronograph with the intention of timing anything, I simply love how they look.

I'm probably in a minority by not using any of my Chronographs, but that's my personal view.

I was looking to take a time check at a bike event due to pressure from friends who knew I was a watch nerd….by the time I’d unscrewed the pushers it was too late and I endured the ridicule of them all waving their phones at me …..in fairness it was very short notice🤦‍♂️

I understand, but can’t relate. If I’m gonna buy a chrono, I’m gonna use it :) I would say that I’m a minority regarding this topic haha, I have a lot of friends wearing chronos and nobody uses their functions.

That’s exactly what I’m talking about, the inconvenience. Haha sorry for the ridicule 😀

We, watch nerds, make a fuss about screwed down everything for the sake of water resistance, but in practice I only find it to be an inconvenience... Whether it's to wind or set up the time on a watch, or use the pushers on a chrono, everything takes extra time at no benefit because, let's be real, I'm not going to jump in the pool with this leather strap anyway. Not am I a diver. 🤷

Well yes, but I do see benefits of screw-down crowns and pushers if they are on sport watches. For example, I understand that BB Chrono has screw-down pushers since it’s a 200m watch and you can dive with it, but it is just inconvenient for a day to day use.

·

I would never buy a watch with that. I use my chronograph for work and at the gym. It would be a nightmare for me.

Lolololololololololololololol. That's pain brother!

Friends eh?..😂

Love the way they look, love the idea of it, hate using them.

I do find them inconvenient unless they are unscrewed all the time, which I'm not a fan of how they look. Like some of the other posters, I have missed some timing opportunities, which were annoying.

·

For me it's a feature without benefits.

·

If water resistance is not an issue e.g 3-5AT is enough, I would avoid screw-down crowns all together. I would be concerned by wear & tear and service costs

·

Cool little detail but in daily use are pretty inconvenient, unless you are a diver. BTW, I have three (?) that have screw down pushers so….

·

I have them on my home plate and to be honest it’s kind of nice that I get the 150 m water resistance They don’t bother me at all. Actually, I kind of prefer it. I also like the knurling on the pushers gives it more detail

seems like an over-engineered and unnecessary solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

·

For me it’s a deal breaker to have them. There are watches without them which still offer 300m of water resistance. There is no need for them. Especially on watches with a water resistance of 100m (I look at you Rolex).

·

I would never, ever buy a watch with screw down pushers. I use my chrono function multiple times a day when wearing a chronograph. Screw down pushers are a hassle and something I find unnecessary.

For sure. Screw down is vastly overrated. Yes, it has its place but for 99% of us it’s unnecessary.

·

Hate them. I use my chronos daily for timing coffee and I don’t need them to be screw down. Plenty of pump pushers with 50-100m resistance and I don’t swim with them anyway

·

If you'll be wearing it in the water they are a must. One inadvertent bump hard enough to activate a non screwed down pusher is all it takes for water to get into the watch.

If no water use then not needed.

·

I only have on one watch. Sinn 103 St Sa. I think it fits perfectly with the looks of the watch, but I feel they are not really practical.

They don't contribute to WR the same as a screw in crown, they are there so you can't push them under water.

·

Screw down pushers are a joke. "Sorry, can you just go back to the start and I'll unscrew the stop watch?". It's one of the reasons I've held off on the Daytona. I bought the PD copy to see if I could live with it, and find that I have them unscrewed at all times except when taking a photo for WRUW. They're a nonsense.

That’s a great watch! Does it wear top-heavy?

·

Simple answer. Not convenient :D

·

I have screw down pushers on my Glycine Combat Sub Chronograph and I think they do it to maintain the 200m WR.

But honestly, while it feels cool and premium I hate screw down pushers. Most times I need the chronograph function I need it quick, so using this to time by first unscrewing both pushers is quite tedious. You’re better off going for non-screw down style pushers.

·

Seems pointless to me. I don't buy the water resistance justification since there are plenty of water resistant chronos like the Omega Planet Ocean chronos that don't screw down the pushers.

Not at all.
