Swatches Worth It?

I have been thinking about getting a Swatch when I get the money, however I don't really know much about the brand itself.

I like the designs and all (a lot actually), but $70-$105 for a plastic watch?

What are y'all's thoughts on the brand and quality of their watchs?

Swatches are fun and have a lot of original designs. Are they worth it? Well, maybe, but you are also not spending a ton. Could you get a better G-shock for the money? Maybe, but many of us started with watches like Swatch so I say have at it.

They are lots of variety in this brand, I love them, some are SS, some aluminum and some plastics… great movement and water resist, just look for one you like and get it and sport it! Please send the wrist shots so we can enjoy them with you

Before you buy one, ask yourself how you plan to use it. If you need a durable watch that can take regular use, you might be better off looking at a Timex or Casio digital or analog watch. Swatch watches are made to be fun, but they have acrylic crystals that scratch easily, and tend to have only 30m WR. Enough for most things, but not enough for doing lots of water based activities.

More importantly, they are very loud. You could consider the pre-owned (or preferably just used) market. I chose my Casio MW-59 because I found the price for a Swatch to be more than I wanted to spend. The MQ-24 is cheaper still.

Also, I hate hate hate Swatch's insistence on that proprietary multi-barrel hinged lug design. I want the option of aftermarket bands. Anyway, I'm sure there are knockoffs too, but some people get their undies in a bunch over that.

Worth what

(to be less glib) They are worth as much as you want to spend on them. They are Swiss made but not "high horology." Personally, that's not why I buy watches. Get something you like! 100 bucks for a working thing of any kind that you love isn't very much. And for what it's worth, I find 20-30 year old Swatches all the time that start right up with a new battery.

$70-105, to which my answer is a no. A few years ago I thought they were around $55, which was a stretch. However, the bioceramic is possibly worth the splurge.

In ‘85 they were very necessary. Couldn’t go to 8th and 9th grade without one.

Now, completely optional.

Agree with you on the Casio over Swatch / not into the lugs points. They have cool designs though. I think, especially for someone who doesn't necessarily care about the art of movement design they are a fun way to enjoy having a time thing on your wrist.

The artsier and more unique ones, the real personality pieces, are probably a tad more justifiable than some solid-colored hunk of plastic. They are sort of in a field of their own with those. For the unassuming look, there are better values out there.

It was my watch in the army and outlasted many of my friends' Casio f-91Ws. I'm still wearing it today. With their free battery replacement and polishing it's been 8 years. Had to replace the strap once due to the buckle breaking.

It was the swatch once again. High legibility and good looking too.
