Sinn 556i vs. Tudor BB 36?

Really like these two, but not sure which one I'd love more! Impasse!

Sinn 556i - minimalist (under the radar), utilitarian, German. Modern. SW200-1 movement.

BB36 - more classy, good balance between form and function. Arrow hand gives it character. Tudor. ETA 2824.

Had an opportunity to wear BB36 on the wrist and absolutely loved it, but really dig the German 556i also.

I have both, and like them both.  The watch head on both are nice, but the Tudor is better finished.  The bracelet is much nicer on the Tudor.  Unfortunately the clasp on the Sinn is a rattling piece of garbage that doesn't belong on a $600 watch, let alone an $1,800 one.  The Tudor clasp is fantastic, although strangely long for the size of the watch.

I plan to keep both, but if I had to choose one it would be the Tudor.  I also have a bit of FOMO from not getting one of the tegimented Sinn models, if they make a 38mm one.

BTW, you are likely to get a SW200 in the Tudor now days.

Eyeing up the exact same two watches at the moment! Can’t add much as I haven’t had them on the wrist yet, but judging by pictures and videos the Sinn is edging it for me, because of its design. :)

·

Sinn every day. Unique brand with its own look, feel, vision.

·

Both are outstanding watches but I would go for the Sinn. I had the chance to make almost this same decision (not same watches but same companies) a while back and after going with the Sinn I do not regret it at all. Sinn all day.

SINN

Go for the size that you like better. They’re both super cool watches but 36mm can be polarizing for some.

Related to their size, the Tudor has a relatively more cluttered dial, but I think it works and helps the smaller dial be super legible. By comparison the Sinn dial is clean bordering on sparse which can be seen as a positive or negative depending on your preference.

Size aside, if the BB36 didn‘t have the crown tube, I think it would be a cleaner looking watch and if the Sinn didn’t have different colored hands at the base it would also be cleaner imo.

·

I go with the Sinn, or a Damasko Dk32.

·

I love the blackbay as a daily wear and feel like it fits into formal situations a little bit better because of its polished finishing.

·

BB all day long for me. I don't really get the fuss about Sinn. Perhaps I'm missing something; it wouldn't be the first time

·

Can’t go wrong either way!

My vote for Sinn but both winners.  Pick best colorway?

·

If you can try them both in person. I love the bb36 in blue in person. Sinn 556i just looks a lot more toolish compared to online pics. What i went with eventually is a bb58 in blue. Same w the bb36 but a bit better proportion and a nice 70 hr reserve. Good luck w your choice. Cant go wrong with either so go w ur heart.

·

I think you'd be happy either way.

Best would be to see how they both sit on your wrist and see which one 'feels' better.

I learnt after many mistakes in the past that 'a well fitting watch on the wrist beats an ill-wearing but great-looking watch all the time'!

·

I’d go with the 556i, if I didn’t already have an A-RS and an I-RS.  I’m not sure where the clasp criticism comes from, as both of mine are great.  The Sinns are more “instrumental” looking than the BB36, which I prefer.  I’m not sure how the lume is on the BB36.  The 556 is long-lasting, but not dazzlingly bright.  Another thought: the BB36 is pretty close to $3k: for that kind of money you could get a tegimented 856 or U50….

·

i like both of them. but if you like something a little bit quirky i'll choose sinn 556

·

You could also get the Sinn and then get a bb58 :) I love the the bb36 but having that in addition to the 58 seems a little redundant. Might still pull the trigger if I can’t get my hands on an Explorer 😢

·

I would get the Sinn. I’m a fan of the German tool watch aesthetic and while they are hated by many, I like having a date on my watches. The bb36 is a beautiful watch, but I don’t think it justifies the price difference.

Sinn

Have been in love with Sinn ever since I wandered into the Römerberg store in Frankfurt. Since then, I bought the 556I RS. You do you, but my vote goes to Sinn.

·

If you’re choosing between these two imo: you’ve already ‘won’…!

Common sense says go with the Rolex sibling but when you pick up the Sinn it feels incredibly solid. It’s so hard to describe how good it feels in the hand/on the wrist. Let us know what you decide!

·

Love the toolishness of the Sinn, and the snowflake hand of the Tudor is a NO for me.

·

I‘m biased, but I’d go with the Sinn. I wore my 556i today; it‘s a great watch 🙂.

·

I have not had those exact models, but I recently had a Sinn 105 GMT and a BB41.

Both are exceptional and would serve you equally well, but they are quite different watches. The Sinn will feel more rugged, slightly less refined and let's face it, unknown to most people. Not that Tudor is much more renown amongst muggles, it is however, more popular.

It comes down to what would make you happiest. Is a date complication important to you? The Tudor has no date. Are applied markers and polished steel hands important? Is legibility a primary focus? As for the movements. The Tudor will be finished at a much higher level and will likely be better regulated. Though they are essentially the same movement (ETA 2824 / SW200).

If I had to chose one, I would likely go with the Tudor, but my choice is irrelevant. Go with the one that sings to you. In the end, you are the one that has to be pleased with your purchase, not us. And as far as we go, when you post your NEW WATCH ALERT, we will be thrilled for you, no matter which way you go.

Enjoy the process, hunt and anticipation. Almost as fun as ownership... :)

Just arrived! Added an extra link, fits perfect. Holy shit it feels very different to my ninja tuna (sbbn035) - so nice on the wrist! Thanks everyone for helping me out in this thread!

I have the BB36 in blue and the Sinn 556A. Having both is a bit redundant, but this isn't a hobby only for the purely logical thinker. I also have the older version of the Alpinist and Citizen's Eco Drive version of a field watch. All get worn and enjoyed when they're on my wrist.

I recently tried to trade my BB36 for a new Sinn 104A and cash to a dealer, but we couldn't reach an agreement. I thought the 104 would give me a bit more variety and I know I like Sinn as a brand. Going with either the BB36 or the Sinn 556 is a win. Both are great quality and good looking time pieces. I think the BB36 can be worn in more situations, but I don't get dressed up too often these days so that point is pretty much moot for me.
