speedy reduced or professional

im torn between a reduced (3510.50.00) or a professional of some kind. im leaning towards reduced both because price and the fact that i only have a 6.5 inch wrist. I plan to try on a professional sometime soon, but if anyone with a 6.5 has pictures of a reduced on them id love to see. i cant find many locally to try.

I have a 6.5” wrist, but not all wrists are the same, mine is pretty flat. The reduced poses a solid value, especially given their prices have fell back down to earth. Also have to figure out if you want an automatic or hand wound.

If you can try on both, find a way, if you are in NYC, then there are plenty of options for doing so.

yes i know i can find a professional easily, but im not sure where ill find a reduced. have to do some research on watch places there

I had the same issue and same size wrist. Still debating ;-). But ultimately, I decided to go with a digital chrono. But if I had to choose, I'd say reduced since it's likely you'd wear it more.

·

If you want the Speedy then there is only one way to go. Could work on your wrist, give it a try. Otherwise would advise going with tripple date version. IMO the reduced has disproportional/weird placement of subdials and also not so keen on the movement

·

I have similar sized wrists (6.6”-6.75”max) and faced the same decision, eventually went for the 3220.50. It has sufficient speedy vibe, is a bit more busy and shiny, and fits great at 40mm.

The movement is based on a 7751, that people say is inferior. Really? It keeps time great and gives you loads of complications at a good price. You can’t see the movement through the closed case back anyway.

Try on a few models and get what resonates with you most.

I’ve got a 6.25 inch wrist and wear a 37mm quartz seamaster. I think the reduced speedmaster is a great call and a great bargain. A black one like the professional.

oh this is kinda cool. yea i dont see the point of deciding based on movement, especially with a closed caseback. as long as im not paying too much for a quartz im happy. this looks like it could work on my wrist too

6.75 wrist - I have tried on both.

To ME, the Pro looks wide, but the Reduced looks bulbous. Really a matter of personal taste, they are both cool and gorgeous and I wouldn't get hung up on which the "real" one is.

The price difference is to me, gross / unreasonable.

ALSO - I have noticed vintage Pro seems to wear smaller? Maybe I'm tricking myself, but the current ones at the AD seem bigger.

They had multiple examples of the Reduced at Yan's on Pell street when I visited in November.

True! Though I am pleasantly surprised how well the 3220.50 sits on my wrist despite it’s 14+mm thickness.

oh thats tempting. and its 18mm so if i wanted to swap straps with the speedy reduced i could do that

·

I didn't think the pro was wearable on my 6.5 wrist until I got the new 3861 bracelet. Those endlinks change everything!

·

I have a 3523.80 automatic speedy. One word of warning if your eyesight isn’t 110% look elsewhere. The dials on the smaller older speedys are so cramped that they are incredibly difficult to read. Mine lives in the safe now because I need my extra strong reading glasses to make out the time.

I personally like the speedy 38mm. Because it is an automatic and has a date function. Maybe something to consider. It doesnt look quite the same as the moonwatch though if you are after the iconic looks.

i like the sound of this. ill see if my local watch places have one i can try on, because im not tryna spend 4k on a watch that doesnt fit

i would consider but those are fairly pricey, almost double the reduced. for 4k i could get a reduced and a decent diver or everyday watch

My wrist is 6", but it is flat and has a width as if my wrists were ~6.5". Based on that, I would recommend the Reduced. I love that 1) it is automatic, as I'm not into manual watches, 2) can be had for half the price of the regular moonwatch, and 3) subjectively, it is proportioned well. The important thing is to try both, I think.

I am eyeing one of the Speedmaster Dates, which has a similar profile, only thicker. I believe it to be a great alternative. Good luck on your search.

A bonus pic of the midsize Seamaster for reference.
