I’m back to thinking about speedmasters

I’m sure I want one, but I’m lost on which to get. I’ve narrowed my options down to the reduced (3510.50), professional or a speedy date (probably the 3513). If anyone has any of these and can provide pictures and opinions I’d really appreciate it. Also budget isn’t huge so I’m leaning towards date or reduced but who knows what’ll happen. Wrist is 6.5 inches or 16.5 cm

Have you been in a tried them on. I went in recently and posted here about it.

My wrist is just a little bigger than yours and I was leaning towards the reduced but it wasn’t perfect and was surprisingly thick.

If you haven’t managed to do so I would encourage you to make the effort to try a few different ones on.

I still gotta find a time to do it. Hopefully within a few weeks

I'd look into servicing costs before buying one, that's why I got a Bulova Lunar Pilot instead. To give you a rough idea my simple 3 hander Seamaster 300 heritage (2015 ) cost £480 & 3 months - I imagine that the far more complex chronograph/multiple function Omega would cost substantially more.

I'd love one...

Good luck mate 👍🏻🚀

Oh jeez that’s a lot. I completely forgot about servicing

Yeah, it's ridiculous!!

Does come back like brand new, but for myself the service cost is pretty much the same as I paid for some of my nicest watches ( £500 for used Willard) !!

One day, that's the dream anyway

I looked it up it’s close to a thousand for a mechanical chrono. Might just get a seiko speedtimer or something

Recommend the Lunar Pilot, afterall it's got the provenance the Speedy has!

..and the new meteorite dial one costs around the price of that service 🤯

Here's my version 1 with a NASA used Komfit bracelet

Hate the pushers on the lunar pilot. That’s why I’m leaning towards speedy over it

Honestly might just get one of those seikos

I had a 3523.80 (39mm day/date) and I found it very hard to read.

That’s a very busy dial, which is why I’m leaning towards a 3513

Can't go wrong with a Seiko 😁👍🏻👍🏻

It’s not just the busyness. It’s also hard to read sub registers on such a small dial. I don’t think I would personally buy a chronograph smaller than 41.

Had a Speedy Reduced and a Speedy Pro. On my 6.25" wrist both worked, but I definitely preferred the fit of the Reduced. One thing to be aware of with the Reduced models is service history. It uses a chronograph module that many watchmakers won't service. When these watchmakers go to service the watch they will service the main movement but leave the chrono module alone. The issue with this is the 2 movements are linked together and the running seconds is actually part of the chrono module, so even if you never use the chronograph function, it's still important to have the chrono module running well. If they only service the main movement, and leave the chrono module be, they might as well have just not even serviced it. It's also expensive to service these through Omega. $900-1100 is to be expected for Omega to service a Speedy Reduced. The Speedy date uese an entirely different movement and it is an integrated chronograph, not a chrono module stacked on the main movement. The integrated chrono module should be able to be serviced by any competent watchmaker. Hope this helps! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

For years I dreamed of a Mercedes and today that I have it I am horrified by the cost of services, the same with Omega, you dream of the watch but you abhor the maintenance costs. Try Bulova Lunar Pilot is amazing.

It might very well just be the smaller Speedmasters that are hard to read, but that’s what they were asking about and what I was speaking to.

Interesting. The Reduced is the smaller Speedy they were referring to and I found that watch super legible. Maybe my eyes are much better than I thought they were!

Price of servicing is definitely something to keep in mind. I brought my Speedmaster Professional (3573.50 - the "Sapphire Sandwich" model) to the Omega Boutique for servicing and it was $750. But that includes new hands, new crown and pushers, refinishing of the case and bracelet, new mainspring and barrel as well as the normal cleaning and oiling. I've also seen them replace worn wheels, etc. without any additional cost, so it's not a terrible deal at all. I get about six years between services, so I think of it as only $0.34/per day, which doesn't really sound too bad at all :-).

Isn't the Lunar Pilot a big watch? Probs no good on a 6.25in wrist.

Yea it’s huge. Probably won’t work on my 6.5 inch wrist

I had the same concern my wrist is 6.5" and fits nicely, I had dismissed it at first but one come up at a price I couldn't say no to, I knew that if it didn't look right I could easily get my money back and a bit more.

I’m 16 years old and 700 in debt. I got nothing to sell and saving that much will take me a lot longer than I’d like to wait

Got it, awesome that you are collecting at 16 there are many affordable options for great watches you will find something to enjoy. One of my favs is my seiko turtle purchased for about 400. My first watch was a tissot as a gift in ‘99, have fun collecting

Yes it's big, but wears surprisingly well - my Mrs often wears mine 👍🏻

I was never a fan of the turtle case style, but yes seiko has some incredible offerings
