Battle of the french divers

1st post here...

I have a sort of minimalist collection consisting of 4 watches, one japanese everyday watch, a swiss dress piece, an australian digital beater and an american casual; each from a different country of origin. I want a diver in my collection and France looks like It has some interesting options. Which one would you recommend?

  1. Yema Superman

  2. Baltic Acuascaphe

I like the look of the Yema better but I’ve heard too many stories of poor quality and abysmal customer service.

I choose Baltic.

·

I had a Yema Navygraf. Only issue I had was a bad crown that they fixed. Not a deal breaker for me.

·

Don't forget about Wolbrook/Douglas.

Lotta bang for buck and regulated Miyota on the new Skindiver.

They have sapphire and other non tool colors too.

Me I like the non reflective, less smudgy acrylic. YMMV.

The Baltic is prettier and has the more reliable movement. I go Baltic! 😉

·

I would go with Baltic, as I'm usually leaning towards vintage looks and Baltic has that appeal to me. Another factor would be not so great opinions about Yema's quality and post-sales service.

·

Serica is another brand to look into. Very good looking diver, imo.

Out of those two, I like the Baltic better.

Serica is also french and has a great looking diver, they switched the movements that were giving some people trouble, so I’d definetly check them out.

·

Baltic. It's my new grail.

·

I love the look of the Baltic so it would be the one for me.

I am a new watch collector, and the Aquascaphe was my first purchase! I absolutely love it. (I am probably biased due to this fact.) I like a more vintage look and the Baltic delivers that in spades. I love the domed sapphire crystal. Also the beads of rice bracelet is very comfortable and doesn’t pull hairs. The only thing that I have to say negative is that my watch didn’t come with additional links in the little spare links place. They did send me links free of charge (and fast) and I couldn’t find anyone else with the same problem. I have scratched up the clasp a bit but that is unavoidable I feel like. It is sporty enough for casual and dressy enough I can wear it to work! I’m sure you can’t go wrong with either but I don’t know much about the yema.

·

i always wanted a yema so id say get a yema albeit i will probably wait until they fix their QC issues and customer service.

baltic, however, i didnt know they did these. how much for this baltic these days?

·

I own a Yema Superman (albeit a bronze version), and I think it's fabulous.

Do note, 99% of people who say, 'Yema has terrible CS!' don't actually own a Yema, and have never dealt with Yema CS. So... yeah, take those views with a significant pinch of salt, LOL. Like when a neighbour tells you a car manufacturer is bad. You ask, 'Oh, have you owned one, before?' and they go a bit quiet.

Baltic or Serica.

·

Serica. I don't own a diver yet, but the Serica COSC version is on my short list.

·

I have the Baltic Aquascaphe and love it. Mine is black and silver. I’m not a big fan of the beige colored hands and markers.

Baltic seriously impressed me with their titanium Aquascaphe 300m, ceramic bezel, great finishing. Wow

If it's the decision between Baltic and Yema, then I would lean to Yema.

I have a number of both, and Yema comes out on top from a true dive watch with proper specs. If you just want it for desk diving, then either works fine.

Here are some of the Yema references I particularly like...

And these are the Baltics...

Of course, if you want French, there is always Le Forban...

Or the more major brand of Bell & Ross...

I own two Superman and one Wristmaster and I don't have any Baltic.

And as opposed to other people commenting from hearsay, the only time when I had to contact Yema service it made me wish that other brands could match their level of promptness and professionalism.

I own my Baltic for 8 months now and i‘m very happy with the quality and how it wears. It has the perfect size and is regulated well. I would definitely recommend the Baltic.

·

Baltic is a beauty 👍 never seen Le Forben before, looked on there website and was impressed especially the blue dial

·

I like the baltic more

I looked at Le Fourban and the measurements look just right, I have never had a Miyota 8215, is it too noisy?

It's a matter of taste. You definitely feel the rotor spinning, but I haven't found it to be "too" noisy. I do have some others where it is louder than on the Le Forban.

If feeling the rotor spin bothers you, then I would give it a pass.

I'm used to these kinds of things especially when you are dealing with the Valjoux 7750 series of chronograph movements that can both be loud and you feel the spin.
