<Generic ‘Grail Acquired’ Title Here>

Here I am, wearing the grail watch that I’ve set my eyes on for years. I remember the roller coaster of feelings during my watch-collecting journey: discovering this watch and admiring the complication, then finding out that buying at retail is close to impossible for peasants such as myself, then having this watch looming in the back of my mind whenever I purchased other watches (love the rest of my watch collection, mind you, but I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t still pining for this one all the time).

Now I must admit that I’m not a big Rolex fan. Yes, I find that their watches are good and very nice looking, but at the price their selling at (even at retail) I find them overpriced and the competitions have better value for money to offer (unless you consider them as ‘investments’). But the Sky Dweller is an exception for me personally. It got me hooked with its elegant looks and ultimately its complications. One can perhaps even argue that it’s value for money for what it’s offering as a total package.

I wish I could say that I managed to get this after years of patiently waiting. That finally an AD reached out to me and said “Hey, your Sky Dweller is waiting for you. We’ll sell it to you at retail.” With my meager purchase history, this ideal scenario will never happen. No. I bought this second hand from a reputable store (a friend confirmed that I can trust them), with a price of roughly 10% above retail (luckily something that I can still stomach).

But in the end, to put it simply, I am beyond happy with this watch. It wears as nicely as I thought it would (prior to buying it I’ve never tried it on, risky I know) and the complications are as pleasant and clever as they said they are. It’s satiated my hunger for more watches as I lost interest in acquiring new pieces (that Bel Canto doesn’t count because I put the deposit prior to this purchase, OK? But who am I kidding, this hobby is a terminal illness that we’ll never fully recover from). It also changes my perception of Rolex, even if only slightly. I still find them overpriced and not value-for-money, but that white Explorer GMT is … hmmm … ❤️

I honestly thought the skydweller was an OK watch, it looks pretty nice but other than that it was OK. Then I saw a YouTube short on one that showed all the functions that it does and how the bezel plays a big part and it quickly shot up to being my favorite Rolex. It was I guess white gold on oysterflex and I fell in ❤️. Congrats on getting your grail. Wear it in good health.

Wow. Congratulations.

·

Not a massive Rolex admirer, but I do like the Sky Dweller. Fantastic watch, and congratulations. Enjoy your grail!

·

Wow a beautiful watch. These Rolex models along with a lot of other watches are not just works of art but engineering marvels also!

·

well done, the heart wants want the heart wants, it´s a gorgeous watch....nothing wrong with paying a premium..... life is too short to wait for you don't know how long and end up getting nothing from an AD.

·

Congrats! Beautiful watch the Sky Dweller has always been near the top of my Rolex wishlist. I am sure it will get lots of wrist time, at least until that Bel Canto arrives 🙂 , oh and we'll expect to see that Polar Explorer wrist shot in the not too distant future as well. 😉

First of all congratulations for acquiring the watch but I have to tell you , these “stickers” or watch shields really take away from the beauty of the material. I also used to have them on my Tudor Black bay 58 everywhere like on the bracelet the clasp and all. But after I removed them I started to notice how good it looks in the light. I know it’s in no way my decision but I’m just telling you out of experience, that those take away a lot. Having them in the case sides is ok for me and on the clasp maybe also but the rest looks better without them

The only Rolex I like 👏

It’s actually something similar to a cellphone screen protector that the previous owner had a store specializing on this applied on the watch. It hasn’t bothered me too much but I can imagine having them removed in the future. But as of the moment I don’t mind them at all. Probably because I’m still in the honeymoon phase 😊

Ah sorry about unnecessarily explaining that to you hahaha. So far I don’t feel like the watch is fragile because of the complications. The command ring/bezel feel sturdy and as you operate the crown to change dates/local time/gmt time you can feel the gears inside are quite robust. The only thing I noticed so far is that it seems that there’s a bit of higher resistance in the gears to move the dates forward if the hour hand is just after midnight (around 1 to 2 AM position) so sometime I move them forward to after the 4 or 5 AM position and I notice the date wheel moves somewhat smoother after doing that. Other than this observation everything else feels robust.

I've tried so hard to accept the Cyclops. I just can't. My OCD is too strong. 🥺

Congrats on the watch you should be proud. It’s a killer watch. People hate on Rolex largely because they can’t get one or it’s the cool thing to do. Rolex is king now and forever and has been for along time for a reason. They make absolutely incredible watches, especially when it comes to ergonomics and everyday use. I think they make the best watches period at any price.

Funny timing, I was on my way to pick up my latest watch from my favourite multi brand ad when I passed by a grey market watch boutique that took over the lease of some failed business in an area that I have visited a lot over the years, stopped to browse at the show window when the affable young owner steps out to pick up his lunch. He says that he remembers me from a few places that he has worked at in the past. I express interest in a Sky Dweller, he quotes me a price that I can live with. I ask where the watches all new never worn comes from. He answers honestly that guys buy them at retail and flips to sellers. I can afford the grey market guy’s price but cannot support the business practice and move on.

Love the complications but for some reason it looks big on everyone that posts it. I would definitely have to try it on.

This guy gets it. I'm an unabashed Rolex guy. Congrats on your new Skydweller! Lean into it!

Hey Arie, congrats on getting your grail watch. This is my first seeing the Sky-Dweller - I don’t really look at Rolex models - that is a good looking watch. The coin edge bezel and cyclops gives it a rugged tooly look. I like the monochromatic color scheme too, makes it super versatile.

·

Congratulations on your journey on getting your dream watch, now which comes next on your wishlist?

·

Enjoy your grail. It's an awesome watch! 👌

·

Beautiful time piece you have there 🥵

·

Glad to hear you hung in there and ended up finding an alternative path to ownership that was reasonable and it makes no impact to the purchase and joy of an amazing top notch piece and top notch Rolex. I hear they are amazing on Oysterflex if you can make that happen😉

Cheers and congrats

I honestly don’t know at the moment. Again that Bel Canto doesn”t count. But I do look forward to it!

Had the pleasure of trying one on at my AD. Too big for me but the intricacy of the complications is so cool. Congratulations, very cool piece!
