My daily set of watches

Good day, gentlemen. I’m a newbie both here and in the world of watch collecting as well. So please do not judge my words and collection too hard.

As an officer in an active service (Ukraine Defence Forces), I was transferred to a desk job last year after a few injuries. Being able to live at least half-ordinary life since then, I’ve got into hobby of watch collecting. As you might understand, there are not too many options to get your hands on some real high-end pieces. However there is still a strong chance of finding some interesting stuff both in local retail and on OLX (local equivalent of eBay). So, for the last year I’ve invested quite a time and some money into my vision of a mandatory set of watches a gentleman should have:

  1. A daily driver

  2. A sceleton

  3. A diver

  4. A pilot

These 4 in my opinion are covering any occasion. So, my annual goal was to get myself such a set and make it as good as possible without spending some astronomical amount of money.

After some research and a few hours of watching some nerdy YouTubers, I’ve developed a rule for my collection:

No DW-like crap, no quartz, no fakes.

Following these rules lead me to my current collection:

  1. Hamilton jazzmaster with a blue view matrix dial as my daily driver

  2. Ingersoll the jazz as my sceleton watch. I know, I know. Not a match for a Hamilton. But for a buck there were other options

  3. Tissot seastar 2000 (2023 version) as a diver

  4. Bulova A-15 as a pilot watch.

As for now, I’m happy with this humble set. The only piece I’d definitely like to upgrade is a sceleton for some obvious reasons.

So please let me know if what you think of my set. Am I moving in a right direction?I

Welcome to Watch Crunch and Enjoy! You are well on your way! Great collection

Thank you! Doing m best to avoid some typical(?) mistakes with fashion brands, Aliexpress watches and quartz. Currently in search of a decent replacement for Ingersoll the jazz, as it in my opinion doesn’t keep up with my other pieces

Welcome to the crunch! Nice to have you here and present a great start to your collection👌Enjoy!👍

Thanks! I think I’ve dodged not only a few russian bullets out there, but also a typical mistake driven buy a local post-soviet mentality out here. I didn’t set my foot on the path of fake Rolexes and Omegas. Fakes are still crazy popular here in Ukraine. Not my choice luckily.

Welcome to WatchCrunch! Nice collection and good rules to guide you in your collecting!

Though I must say, keep an open mind on quartz, it's not all bad. 😄

Thank you!

As for quartz - I’d consider only Bulova Lunar Pilot worth buying. It might be only me, but I see quartz through the prism of dirt cheap but yet accurate watches, responsible for today’s sky high prices on a decent mechanical pieces.

Yet, Lunar Pilot is a fantastic watch for sure.

Anyways, I’m sure it’s just me being too stereotypical and harsh on quartz.

You're welcome, friend. Be safe and remain vigilant during the ongoing war💪 It's better to hear that you have been able to avoid the pitfalls of counterfeit watches. Avoiding these imitations and dedicating your attention to authentic timepieces is an intelligent choice for cultivating your collection.

When you prioritize authenticity, you can be confident that you're investing in exquisite timepieces that will bring you both delight and enduring value.

A year ago it was more like this to me. Since recovery (it took me a bit longer then a month) and getting my actual still military, but yet a desk job, I’ve got an absolutely different sense of time. I’m glad living yet another quiet (or not so quiet during russian missile attacks) with my family. Doing my best to remain civilized.
