We are in a comfort culture. Unnecessarily wearing a clunky watch that no one originally found comfortable will take a while. I agree that trends come and go, so my guess is a decade at a minimum.
I ve got a diesel mr daddy II wearing regularily. It grabs a lot of attention though it s not 'mainstream' anymore. I can remember the years every 2nd dude walks around with one of these, and i m glad those times are gone
I did not like them when they were trendy, so I don't really care if/when they will be back.
I also think, before social media, posers relied more on in your face displays of wealth. Today a photo of your expensive watch holding the steering wheel of a rented Ferrari seems to be the "trendy" thing if you are after validation from strangers. So who knows if Breitling for Bentley will ever become a thing again.
I prefer smaller watches and am happy about the trend to go back to smaller watches, but I have the impression that only watch fans are into it. Lots of people around me who like watches, but not enough to consider it a hobby, and may only have 1 or 2 fine watches usually go for big bold models
I don't think current watches are small. The massive ones are gone but the median watch on the market is still pretty big relative to the average wrist I'd say.
Nowadays people who like small watches, call everything above 40mm "big". Depending on the design and lug to lug a 44mm watch can look fine as well. My mean watch size is 42-43mm, but I also like for instance this Casio that has a whopping 47mm 😅.

Fashion changes over the span of decades, so I don't expect them to be back in the mainstream again for a while.

It won't matter to me the general trend. My 6 1/2 inch wrist doesn't care lol 😆😆😆.

I expect pocket watches to return in force before the wrist clock catastrophe plagues mankind again.
Define "big watches," I'm genuinely curious.

Can't say I follow fashion, below 38 is too small, above 45 too big. That's it for me , regardless 😉
It will never die in my eyes. Love big watches.
Big watches have always looked terrible imo. And I mean big relative to your wrist size.

43-47mm case on an average sized man. I assume 6.75in wrist?
