Strap Monsters and strap disasters. Let's see and hear about them!

Having only ventured into the world of changing watch straps six months ago, I am still very much a novice. However, what I've found fascinating is how some watches look great with whatever you throw at them, whereas others require careful pairing.

So, fellow Crunchers, let's share pics and tales of our favourite Strap Monsters, strap disasters, as well as those watches that struggle to go with anything!

What is that green strap? Love the look.

As far as straps, I have no taste so I pair every watch with any strap and think it looks good 😂

That's what I'd called 'myopically eclectic'!

Epic set of pics. Yes, the ranger looks great on all of these. 👍

Agreed. The Ranger is the epitome of versatile.

I posted this on WRUW a while back.

Not a strap monster, but the simple dial allows for some variety.

Today I pulled the band off of one strap monster (Khaki Mechanical) and threw it on another.

💯 with you on the Speedmaster, it seems to go with almost anything.

I don't have a Khaki mechanical, but have been eyeing up the Murph recently. I wonder if that'd be versatile too?

I've been eyeballing the Murph as well and must say that if I had to choose another Hamilton today it would be the 42mm Murph since the California State motto is "Eureka" and the 38mm version doesn't have the morse code on the second hand.

Fortunately I tried on the 42mm at our Seattle gathering last month and the downward curving lugs made it sit much better than many other watches that size.

That's good to know. 42mm sounds too big on paper for me. I need to get to an AD over here, to try them both on first. Not as many Hamilton outlets over here in the UK.

The Tudor on the milanese looks fantastic! My head imploded seeing the Speedy on the 300m though. I can't get my brain to compute what I'm looking at. Speedy on the Nato is a great look too

My Vostok Komandirskie is pretty versatile in the strap department.

It looks great in all of these combos 👍

Here's one of my favourite combinations

Image

My Camy Club-Star with a generic tan genuine leather strap. It's going to receive a handmade (by me... yikes) ostrich leather band soon, once I get some free time in December.

As for a strap disaster, here is my Eterna Matic 1000. It has sharp 17mm lugs, so I can't force an 18mm band into it. It has an 18mm cheap leather strap that was forced in many years ago. It'll hold until I get the ostrich leather situation sorted.

I’m considering a black Rubber B strap for my Explorer II polar. Here’s a similar thing I found on Chrono24. Thoughts? I reckon the black against the white changes it entirely and really gives you a whole new watch. Cheers.

The EII on the black rubber is a great look. I'm deliberating between Rubber B and Everest straps for my blue Sub. They're too expensive to 'take a punt' on both, so currently checking out reviews.

I’ve looked at both and think I’ll go Rubber B. The Rubber B has the Dream strap which has a micro adjustment. Not in a rush to part with the cash but I’ve got the 16570 and would hate for it to be discontinued and miss out. Are you thinking blue strap? And what about buckle? I’m gonna go the tang buckle. I can’t be bothered with changing over the clasp as well, and I think the buckle will be more comfortable

Yes, I'm looking at the bright blue strap as it looks amazing in pics on a blue Sub. I'll be going for the simple buckle too.

I have never found anything that worked better than the original leather strap for my Longines Master Collection Chrono:

Image

I've tried some natos (completely out of place) and a blue leather which felt too cheap for the watch... So I always wear it on the original.

now about my Yema Superman GMT:

it came on either this brown leather, for which I could never get a good fit (too tight or too lose with a watch head that was a bit too heavy)

Image

or on this rubber, which I didn't really like:

Image

black leather ... naaaaah. Blue leather ... meh.

This was the best match I got on a Nato:

Image

anyway, not finding a good strap for it is one of the reasons why I sold it eventually.
