Casio... WHY?

Let's be real for a moment ok. Most Casios are cheap watches built cheaply and sold cheap. There are some top of line ones that aren't but for the most part, most of Casios inventory are pretty low end on the specs. SO WHY THE HELL DO WE LOVE THEM SO DAMN MUCH? There are other watch brands that compete with Casio on looks and materials and specs and we don't give 2 shites about them!! So why Casio? Why do so many of us have this loyalty and respect for them. I've heard some people in the industry even refer to them as GOD TIER watches lmao 🤣. I love them too. The one in the pic is on my wrist right now for crying out loud!!! But for the life of me I DONT KNOW WHY.... DO YOU? LOL.

People like "originals" I think. Casio has a bit of that going for them with the G Shocks and such.

That said, I don't really like Casio all that much and prefer Garmin as my choice of digital wrist accessory, so I am just speculating.

I think for us older peeps it re connects to our childhood and evokes nostalgia, the younger generations relate to the associated limited edition releases bright colours and use of new materials. Some people just see them as a value for money option. Also I think us blokes can’t resist a G-SHOCK as it has that over engineered indestructible thing going on, even if we don’t get it dirty day to day we all think in the back of our minds if the world as we know was coming to an end this would be our survival watch 😂

Out of all my G-SHOCK’s I already know which one would be on my wrist in an emergency ‼️ 😂

I think it's cost, and group think. It's "cool" to act like Casio are amazing, so people act that way.

If it was "cool" to bash Casio people would be doing that..

The square is the modern field watch. The one that actually goes on adventures in the wild :)

It’s always accurate with the radio signal. It’s always running with the solar. 200m WR. It weighs almost nothing, you don’t notice it on the wrist. It’s hard as nails.

Totally agree 👍🏻💯

I love casio and have a fair few casioak that I've modded with bracelets etc. I'm currently wearing the MTG solar which is a beautiful piece.

I ask myself that question every time I scroll this site.

Reliable, good looking, keep great time, and if it gets damaged you won't cry and can replace it easily. Did I say inexpensive? What's not to like!

·

I think it comes down to how someone looks at cost vs. value. My most expensive Casio is a Pro-Trek that has proven it's worth exponentially more than what I paid for it. The same is easily true for the more affordable pieces, perhaps more so. They provide robust, functional, and easily attainable watches that appeal to most people.

The other side is that we're willing to pay other brands way too much.

You need to break down "cheap":

* Yes they are inexpensive to buy

* By extension, they must be somewhat inexpensive to build

* But they aren't poorly made in any sense

I think about Casio as sort of the AK-47 of watches. Inexpensive to make at scale and reliable in the field.

Not my cup of tea at all

Popular because they do the job and are cheap enough to be all inclusive regardless of income, & YouTube pushes them constantly (for the above reasons to attract more viewers)

·

Why do i love them?

  • Great quality control

  • they're durable

  • they have a multitude of options to choose from

  • (mostly) great specs.

Regarding the use of the word 'Cheap', which I feel can be misleading: They're not unreasonably priced. I wouldn't call them cheap per se, I'd say they're affordable. You get what you pay for, and some more. Also, the difference in purchasing parity between the US and the East could explain why Casios 'feel' cheaper in the US. The watches cost roughly the same in both markets, but a 5600 in India would be much more dearer than in the US.

And just because manufacturing costs are low does not necessarily mean that low-grade materials have been used to build the watch.

I agree, cheap in this case nearly refers to cost of the materials used. We're not talking sapphire crystals and stainless steel or titanium. It's mineral and plastic. But it doesn't mean cheap as in poorly made or poor quality! I wouldnt like them if that were the case.

Tons of features for a meager (if not reasonable) price coming from an actual watch manufacturer and developer of watch technology? Whats not to like, please.

·

This might bring me some hate but I must be the exception. I'm not a fan, I don't own any, and I simply can't picture one on my wrist.

Some people like hotdogs and some people like steak. To each their own.
