Feeling of emptiness when not wearing a watch?

For me disaster struck on vocation…I looked at my TAG Heuer and noticed it stopped even though I wore it daily. Upon closer inspection through caseback - I noticed that a small screw detached and blocked a rotor completely (so automatic winding doesn’t work). Manual winding is fine, but I decided to keep it stopped and off my hand as a precaution. I don’t have a replacement watch during this trip and whenever I instinctively look at my wrist it just feels…empty…void. I am used to wear watches daily and now this feeling of not having one sucks so much. Quite difficult to enjoy the trip without it 😓 Any other painful watch related experience worse than that?

Sounds like you need to buy a new watch while on your vacation.

It’s Great Excuse for a new Watch 🥳

NWA coming soon

I was waiting for my retired accountant to walk to a nearby diner for lunch one afternoon, man shows up wearing a new Bell&Ross watch. He was cutting through a luxury department store realized he neglected to slip on a watch so he just bought a new one. It was fortunate he remembered his wallet.

Good to take a backup on vacation. Something durable (Casio/Seiko/Citizen).

That would be great, but too much for my slim budget…plus we are in a small city with mostly fashion watches sold. There’s apparently Rolex and Cartier AD just near hotel that seem legit, but again - too expensive for impulsive purchase 😅

You don't have to buy a fancy watch. Just buy 'a' watch to fill that empty wrist feeling. I'm sure there's a department store or gift shop somewhere. Then when you get home... gift it someone else.

Good idea to keep it stopped. As the others have said, buy another watch on your vacation! No better reason to buy a new watch with a great story behind it!

Two, just in case.

Sorry to hear. The best thing for sure is to not wear it, because that screw could go elsewhere and do some damage, potentially.

The same thing happened to my Omega Seamaster. When I got it back from service, I asked if they knew why the screw got loose, and the answer was pretty much “it happens sometimes, and isn’t anything that could be predicted or prevented.” Hopefully TH doesn’t charge too much to fix it!

I bought mine as certified pre-owned from a reputable seller. Watch itself was produced 2014, but based on info I got was inspected and serviced prior to being purchased by me in March. So I will send back to seller for repair as it should be covered by 2 year warranty and issue is definitely due to incorrect servicing…

NWA right away! 😊

And always have at least several emergency backup watches.

Sounds like he was a pretty good accountant.

I cannot be without a watch. If you are still on vacation, buy a Casio FW91. It is a classic and under $20

·

That's probably why TAG does not get undeserved criticism... i've seen some chinese replicas work better or last longer, although its also a crap shoot at times. You might just consider having it repaired by any competent watch repairman and contemplate a better purchase next time...

From my perspective it is not a manufacturer’s fault. What happened is not a QC issue like misaligned marks, bad polishing, etc. Movement itself is a base ETA marketed under different name (Calibre 6), but differs only in finishing on the rotor and material of hairspring. At least this is what I found. As mentioned - watch is certified pre-owned and was purchased through an authorized dealer, not from manufacturer directly. So dealer is responsible for what happened as they serviced a watch prior selling it and likely didn’t notice a loose screw. They said will confirm next steps on warranty repair as repairing it elsewhere might get expensive. So long story short - for me it is a hit to dealer credibility, rather than TAG Heuer 😉

I almost always carry a Casio royale as an emergency backup wrist watch.

Agreed. I settled for 2100. Bit more expensive - but was on my radar anyways. I like it 😉

I went for a Casioak, nothing too fancy 😎

Can’t go wrong. I have a 2100 and love it

Damn sorry to hear that, hopefully, you got it serviced and it is working now. You would think something like this would not happen considering modern manufacturing tolerances

Yeah, it’s rather a fault of pre-owned dealer during repair works. Crap happens, I was probably just unlucky. They quickly responded and handled whole situation very well. Watch is ready now to be shipped back to me 😎
