Next German watch

Hello Crunchers 👋

After a purchase of Circula last month, I am slowly starting to think of next year collection expansion. Essentially, my aim is to buy a German watch showing more than one time zone. Up to now - Sinn 6068B was the only consideration, but I just uncovered Junghans Meister Worldtimer and I have a dilemma. If you vote based just on picture - that’s fine and I appreciate it, but would be also good to see if someone had experience with these models or similar. Choice between those two is already tough - so appreciated if there no further suggestions on alternatives 😅

My brief compare doesn’t lead me to a solid winner:

  1. Dimensions - Junghans 40.4mm / Sinn 38.5mm. Both reasonable lug-to-lug so should wear good on small wrist. Junghans is 1.5mm thinner though, would better hide under cuff

  2. Movement - despite Junghans using proprietary designation - essentially its a modified SW-330 while Sinn uses SW-300. So overall, similar movements and similar decorations (visible through sapphire case back)

  3. Time zone - Sinn will show time in two time zones, while Junghans is a world time. Both rely on internal disc to display non-local time zone. My justification is to use it for work as I am based in Eastern Europe, while my clients are in us, so both watches will handle task of telling time in NY well

  4. Money - Junghans is 2,000€, while Sinn comes at 2,500€, however, I think Sinn ships bracelet and leather strap for this money

Happy to hear any arguments in favor of one watch or another.

Probably I will end up buying both (just few years apart 😅) so this poll is really to help decide which comes first…

Both are lovely watches and a very hard choice.

I'm not a fan of gold, although I believe it will make a comeback in 2024. So my head tells me the Sinn is more to my tastes. But, I prefer the Junghans complication.

I'll vote Junghans, as I've noticed they do a stainless steel version that I now want. Er, thanks....

It rejects the confines of the "this or that" nature of the question, but given your budget, desire for a Germann watch, and some of the intersections of features, I'm going to color way outside the lines and suggest a pre-owned alternative:

Neo-Vintage 1990's Sinn "Titan" ref 8828. Options of Titanium-only or Titanium and Yellow gold. Also make a small diameter version. Super-thin and light on the wrist. 50M WR with a screw down crown. You'll likely never encounter someone wearing this in person. They can be obtained on eBay or C24 in great condition for the lower end of your acceptable price range with a little bit of research and patience.

It's definitely not like either of these two contemporary pieces and you'll be good no matter what decision you make. Just sharing unsolicited and unwarranted outside the box perspective for what I'd personally cross-shop these with. Good luck and let us know! Cheers!

Thanks for response 🤝 Sinn 8828 is single time zone as far as I see, so not exactly what I look for now as a next watch. But I am just starting to build a small collection and in the future for sure would like to add a vintage timepiece. Will definitely research Sinn a lot since they have a wide offer in my comfort price range and size

I guess this one is not gold, just gold plated. True - there is steel version with blue dial which I removed from poll at last moment. Odds are I will end up buying both and second Sinn 6068 version is black dial which I don’t like that much. So Sinn will be blue and maybe better to have Junghans in completely different color. I think this “gold” version looks gorgeous anyways

It's more expensive than your options, but have you considered this Nomos Zurich?

Yes. I like Nomos a lot, but from reading reviews and just looking at specs - even with small diameter of 39.9mm they have 49.4mm lug-to-lug and overall might wear quite big on slim wrists (like mine) due to design of lugs. Zürich is also on expensive side - currently I don’t feel like spending so much on a watch 🥲But I plan a trip to Glashütte sometime next year and hopefully will try Nomos out. I will probably end up buying small Tangente or Ludwig for my other half as pressure grows… 😅

I have the Junghans Meister Worldtimer in blue with the bracelet on order. Should be here by end of April. I'll show it off when I get it.
