Zenith vs Omega/Tudor

So here we are. Another “what would you do?” poll. I know that the final decision is mine and ‘buy what you like’ blah, but I make this to get differing opinions and points of view on the watches and brands as a whole. Otherwise, what’s the point of this forum?! So, the conundrum. I own a Tudor Black Bay Pro and Omega SMP (among others) currently and I’d love to add the Zenith Shadow to my collection. It’s a watch I’ve seen multiple times over the past year or so and have come close to buying on a few occasions. What’s stopped me, frankly, the price. £7,900 to be precise. However, I just tried it on again today and am even more sure that I want it than ever before. Which leads me to the question. The only way I can justify the outlay is by selling off a couple of my current watches to raise the funds. The BBPro has been sat in the box for almost a year so that’s definitely going. But that in itself won’t bring in enough cash so… the next one I can see myself selling is the SMP. A watch I love. It was my first ‘luxury” purchase in 2021 and it’s been with me around the world. Lots of memories and marks to go with it! The only reason I’d be selling is because I find the size a bit too big now. Well it’s always felt on the bigger side but nowadays it’s almost uncomfortable. What’s changed is that I’ve added a Santos medium and 36mm DJ last year and I think I’ve found my sweet spot in sizing. Bare in mind I have a smallish wrist anyway 6.3-6.5”. Therefore, the question is, would you trade BOTH the BBPro and the SMP for the Shadow??

Sell the Tudor & DJ ..

It sounds like you and the OMEGA had a good life together. It might be hard to let it go, but it also seems like you have come to the conclusion that it's no longer the right watch for you. If you don't have the enjoyment out if it anymore then I think it's time for it to find a new home.

I only have the info you provided, but based on that, if I put myself in your shoes, I'd swap the 2 out for the Zenith.

·

Make sure you seen the shadow and try it out before trade.

That’s exactly it. But I fear I’ll regret it once I do sell. Funny thing is if I was in the market now I wouldn’t buy an SMP.

Yeah there’s not much more to it really. Just a question of whether I want to part with my SMP for the Shadow. Is the grass greener?

I have. Several times and I love how it wears.

I’ve consolidated a few watches into one a few times over the years and I’ve personally never had any regrets. Our tastes constantly evolve and there’s nothing wrong with falling out of love with a watch. I usually debate for a few months before making any big moves like that just to make sure I’m sure.

Maybe just sell the BB Pro and save up for a while. This also gives you time to determine how much you still love your SMP300. If you decide in the end that you want to let it go, that gives you even more funds to buy another watch. Win win situation 😂

·

Reducing watch count and going to smaller case size seems like win/win to me!

I think sell the SMP. It can be a great watch with great memories for you, but sounds like it may have had its time in your collection. If size and comfort are issues, what’s really the point in keeping it IMO. You can always buy another SMP later if you do regret it. Plus, maybe there’s a universe where omega comes out with a smaller version in the future that you could enjoy. I’d say go for it. Watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed and taste evolves, there’s nothing wrong with that growth.

If you have a friend that you could sell the SMP to you could lend it to them and see if you miss it. Just let them know that you might not sell it them but wanted to see how it would feel to let it go. They get to trial run having the watch and might fall in love with it and want to buy it. Could work but also a unique opportunity for both of you.

My brain tells me that you should do the trade, but my gut tells me you’d probably end up missing the Speedmaster because you’ve been through so much with it..

You’d also have redundancy with the chronos…

I would sell the BB Pro and if there’s no other watch to sell, save for a while to be able to afford the Zenith. Long shot.

Sell the Tudor and save for the Zenith

·

You’ll regret getting rid of a watch you love…then it’s gone. You could get another one someday, but it won’t be THAT watch that you made memories with. No way would I personally get rid of a watch like that. But like you said, it’s your decision 👍

·

Hmmm that Omega sounds like you really enjoyed it..... Maybe sell both, get the Zenith and then get a 39.5mm Planet Ocean

·

I'd keep the Omega. It's a superb watch and fits smaller wrists well with it's lyre lugs. You also clearly have a connection to it - just seems like a watch you might regret selling later for the excitement of getting a new watch sooner. But that's me, your decision on the risk of regret could be quite different.

·

Those are both watches you could repurchase later for sure. Go for the Zenith and start creating those new memories now. A watch unworn is not going to continue creating memories.

It may even be fun catching up with those watches in later years if the situation/desire presents.

If they released a smaller SMP then I’d be the first one trading this for that. If I did sell it I don’t think I’d re-buy it. Just wouldn’t be the same..

Tudor has always been accurate and reliable for me.

Best advice yet. I applaud your wisdom!
