Dreamt that I had a g-shock, should I get a G-Shock?

Yeah that's the question basically, I'm drawn to them but never had one and last night I dreamt I had one and loved it. They're fairly inexpensive so even if I regret it it won't be too much of a financial hit. Should I buy one, do you think it's a must-have watch or something watch collectors should experience at least once?

If you dream about it repeatedly, go get one. Until then, wait until you consciously want it.

Or look into what watches mean as dream symbols, unless, to paraphrase Freud, you believe “Sometimes a watch is just a watch.”

That's true!

Ok, this is a new "reason" I have not heard before!

And based on this "excuse", that you literally dreamt up, you have to!!!

·

As someone who over bought last year, I'd say not yet.

Like @TickyBurden said, and like I did with my only 2023 purchase, wait until you know it's not just a passing fancy.

There is nothing special about G-Shocks in my experience. You're just as far ahead buying a more practical digital watch, that is also likely going to be more comfortable.

The "thing" with G-Shocks is the hype about how tough they are, but what good is a watch that can take more than the wrist it's attached to?

The G-Shock (5600) and Casio Duro are my reasonably priced and rugged do all watches. I probably don't need both, but I enjoy them so much that I'm not going to let go of either. There are lots of great alternatives out there. I say look around and find out what fills that niche for you, buy it, enjoy it, and when the bug hits you for something different give it away to start someone off on their watch journey.

That's a great excuse to get a watch, I'm going to use it " but love I had to buy it because I dream't it" ( still be in the doghouse)😆. So I've put yes, it's your 'dream' watch.

You dreamt you got a watch?  I always dream either that:

  1. I'm back in college, because somehow they discovered that I was missing credits for graduation, and the final is tomorrow, and I have no idea what the topic of the class even is, and I'm running around the entire time panicking!
  2. I have to go to the bathroom really, really, really bad, but even if I find a toilet, it's sooooooo disgusting that I can't actually go!

The first is a horrible stress dream.  The second is horrific in its own way, but there's the benefit that in real life I actually have to go, but I'm prevented from doing so...   which is good news, because I guess that prevents me from peeing in bed!

I wish I had your recurring dream instead.

Oh no, all my dreams are stress dreams too, I'm either lost in the city and have to find the bus back home, rushing to the airport in a foreign country because I'm missing my connecting flights, the plane struggles to take off and in most dreams it crashes, or that my hotel is also a shopping mall and I can't find my room. But in one of these I was wearing the gshock.

Dream it, afford it, buy it! Your wrist!

Enjoy the watch!

Cheers!

Yes, pull the trigger! But I would take the classic G-Shock square first. I bought mine in December and it is one of my favorite watches!  It's not just any “cheap” watch, it's a classic G-Shock. I also have plans to get this Casioak.

Do it!

I love all my G shocks, and in particular the squares.

So much of our obsession, er, hobby involves appreciating small differences and details - and I find the changes in squares (color, text, features, etc) to be meaningful enough to always be learning and chasing the "dream" square.  Plus, often that dream can be realized for 10s, not 1,000s, of dollars!

All the thrill of the chase, and the excitement of the NWA, with significantly lower risk of loss - what's not to love!

(Plus, the solar and multi-band stuff is just so grab-and-go ready!!)

Lastly - when I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Kikuo Ibe, father of the G Shock line, he noted my GWM5610 - and pointed out that he was wearing the same watch.  Through a translator he explained that the 5610 was the ultimate G Shock to him, because it achieved so much of his initial vision for the line, and added ease of use and no battery changes as well, all at an affordable price point. If you're looking for the right starter square, I recommend that model highly!

For a relatively small investment, it can't hurt to try.  I recently purchased my first one and although I'm not yet feeling the love, I'm giving it a chance.

·

I would recommend you do some serious research. There are hundreds of g-Shock options, and you need to find the style and function you want. This will take days or weeks, and at the end you will know if you need a g-Shock and why it is the 5610.

·

Firm believer that everyone needs a gshock

If you have ever owned a Casio watch, you'll understand a G-Shock
