Is there any possibility?

Nice thread idea, you bet. Recent additions to my collection include the Omega Seamaster Bond in the ‘luxury’ category and a Tissot quartz perpetual calendar. Reason for the Tissot - I like perpetual calendar complication and I think it makes sense to have this in quartz as the purpose is to not need to re-set monthly. I think this is an attractive watch carries a lot of information on an easily read dial. Truth be told, I did upgrade the band 😉

Yes - I have many of both. I enjoy seeing what I can get for less than £50, it’s much more fun.

·

Absolutely!  The first watch that came to mind was the Casio GShock GA2100...it's only $100 but when I saw it I immediately knew I had to have one.

·

A lot of people who own high horology also own Casios, AFAIK. I don't own anything "true" luxury, but I have one nice watch which is considered "attainable" or "affordable" (depending on your idea of what's expensive and what's not). I also aspire to buy at least one or two actual luxury watches this year, yet I still love my classic G-Shock (GW-B5600BC-1B) and Seiko 5 (SNK361) about as much as I do my "nicest" watch.

·

For me it's:

  • Modern & expensive (expensive is really relative)

Or

  • Vintage & no matter what value

Therefore a modern Rolex gives me the same vibes as a 100 year old vintage watch for 50$. I think it all comes down to "has this watch character"? 😉

·

Sure why not?

Got 3 Omegas, yet i just backed a Kickstarter Watch with an NH35 in it.

·

I went from Cartier to Hamilton to Orient. 🤷🏻‍♂️ The Orient really makes me question why I want to buy an expensive sports watch (for which the answer is because it makes me feel special and elevated).

·

The watch I have on at the moment, has a retail price around $16,000. The watch I wore yesterday, I picked up for around $40. (old G-Shock)

·

I still have a pair of G-Shocks, but I have struggled to find any watches under $1000 outside of Casio that just don’t have some really annoying compromises. At this point I have the 2 Casios under $150, 4 watches in the $1-3k range, and 2 watches around $7k each

There is no watch under $1000 that does it for you except a Casio? I doubt that is true, but it’s ok, you do you.

thx for sharing my friend, is the tissot for daily driver and omega for special occasion maybe??

I am absolutely tempted more often by affordable sub $1000 watches than I am more expensive watches, but I stopped pulling the trigger a long time ago. Based on experience, I know that I’d probably wear one of these watches a handful of times and then it wouldn‘t be able to compete for wrist time with my others.  I also remind myself that resisting two or three so-called affordable purchases would allow me to add a more significant piece to my collection. That said, I don’t think I’ll ever stop looking at watches in every price range.

thx for sharing, is it more challenging i guess to find some diamond in the rough 👍👍

That’s half the fun. Again, you need to know what to look for, and hardly anyone cares anymore so it’s open season. I’d even waste up to £75 on something with a pin-pallet movement if I’m feeling frivolous as when it dies, it does. It’s really no fun walking into an AD knowing what you are expecting to find, unless I want one of the pieces. I also like walking past jewellers and pawnbrokers and seeing what random pieces are inside; similarly markets and antique fairs. Or eBay - oh how I love eBay.

·

Definitely. As long as a watch is built to a suitable level of quality, and appeals to me from an aesthetic point of view, it is a candidate for inclusion in my collection.

i agree with you my friend, thx for sharing 🍺

Yep, I do it all the time. Great design doesn’t equal expensive.

thx for sharing, i agree with you 🙏🏻🙏🏻

It depends on if you like watches for the art and design, or for the status.  I personally get as much joy from my Timex x Peanuts as I do from my most expensive watches. I try and rotate my watches equally so all get almost the same amount of wear.

art, design, and herittage of course. status isnt really important for me, and most of the people here dont know anything about watch lol 😂

If you want anything unique or different your more than likely going to find it sub $1000. Luxury brands don’t stray to far from the long established designs as thats what their customer base wants and expects.

·

Yes.

I have a Seamaster Diver 300m. Love it. No desire for a Submariner. I like Blancpain ok, but not at Blancpain prices. My next dive watch will be either a Baltic, the Tournek-Rayville, a Seiko, or a Doxa. (The Tournek-Rayville does not bother me because there is a gap in its name history. The same can be said for Blancpain, and the Tournek-Rayville seems well-executed.)

I have a Rolex Explorer. My next field watch will be either a Hamilton Khaki or a Seiko Baby Alpinist.

Buy watches you 1) like, and 2) can afford. Just because you can afford something, doesn’t mean you’ll like it. There are some awesome watches at reasonable price points. Buy what makes you smile.

·

I wear a speedy everyday but just picked up a Seiko turtle. I’m a huge sucker for Seiko divers. I’ve probably had a 5-6 SKX007/9s. IMO real watch lovers don’t care about the price, they care about the watches. Only watch snobs (on other forums) care about price and brand exclusively. However, they seem to always just have the “right now” watch, and probably not because they love it.

Spot on 👍 I'm saving for my next big purchase, well it is for me with kids and a mortgage to fund as well, but I still like looking at watches no matter their price point, that's why I love this hobby.

thx for sharing. thats true enthusiasm right there, absolutely agree with you. cheers 🍺

I have numerous watches including two higher end pieces like the speedmaster pro and seamaster bond titanium. When I can I love to wear the omegas but there are a lot of days where I’m wearing Seiko, Orient and others! If you like a watch and have the means to buy it than go for it. Doesn’t matter what category it’s in! 😊

I was quite dissatisfied with my ray raven 2, the bezel has gone so stiff is practically unusable

Sorry to hear that. Mine was super stiff at first too but loosened up with use. After experiencing some of the higher end watches (Tag, Tudor), I realized that it's still pretty stiff but still usable.
