Another Nail In the Coffin

So yesterday, I started Schwarzkopfing with my smartwatch on my off-hand and using it as only a fitness tracker.

Logging my water intake & I met goal. Yay!

Smartwatch decided I needed to be reminded I hit goal... over & over & over & over every 10 seconds or so... until I'd had enough and shut it completely off.

Just reminds me that a smartwatch isn't ever going to be my primary again.

Exactly.   Right wrist...smart watch tracks health.  Left wrist.... random watches from collection gives joy.  Simple

Well, you should be able to change the goal and alert settings to be less annoying. I still use my Apple Watch for health tracking, but I turned off most of the non-health phone syncing features and alert sounds, etc.

I have the 44mm Apple Watch SE and I’d like to go down to the 40mm so it’s less chonky on the right wrist, but I don’t feel like spending more money on the same model.

·

The whole reason I fell down the automatic rabbit hole is because I got sick and tired of dead watch batteries.  Smartwatches that require charging every 24-48 hours?  Hell no.

·

I feel like I spend enough time on my smartphone...why would I get yet another device that would notification me into even more distraction?

Which is why mine is not connected to my phone, and I just use to motivate me to exercise/drink water. No notifications from phone to watch, at all

I think I didn't make it clear enough. I'm fine with the normal, which is one "Goal Achieved!" animation for each goal achieved.

For some reason, this particular time, it just kept repeating the "Goal Achieved!" animation over & over until I turned it off.

You must have really achieved that goal.  You might not need to drink water again for days.

Man I tried i tried to go back to an apple watch while my alpinist was with seiko getting fixed with some qc issues, i made it 3 days... 3. After wearing an apple watch for 5 years (series 0) I tried the series 7 and i'm like this watch is awesome! for someone else, even the charging was ok cos it went to full battery in like 30 min while I was in the shower and stuff but nah. I dont even use my phone to track my gym workouts anymore I went back to paper because I can't stand the distractions my phone offer me, I take the phone to pipe out audiobooks while i lift that's about it. You've got it now so just use it fiddle with the notifications, but if you want to drink more water buy a water bottle you like, and put your favourite mix of water innit, mine is a squeeze of lime, some mint and water and ice in a insulated bottle. And as for exercise get some new workout gear and start building a chain of achievements, use paper and punch it into a spreadsheet unless you're fine using your phone.

I still maintain that an apple watch is such a great gift for an elderly loved one with all those tools but at least in my life of wearing an apple watch 5 years and i loved it for 5 years the time came to upgrade and I realised it wasn't for me anymore. Useful as shit but I just wanted less tech, gps? just use a map and learn your way around, motorcycling made me really appreciate not always needing to be plugged in my phone battery dies so fast  everything smart seems to be pretty dumb once you go offline in the end I was just like meh it's ok I'll just track what matters and such but thats just me, if you need it for motivation or you're competing with friends to push each other but for me I wanted to just be more cognitive of what was happening in my body by using my own senses, actually just feel my heart rate, it's not hard to put 2 fingers to my wrist. Sleep no problem start a stopwatch or just look at the time when i'm falling asleep, luuuuume baby.

I had a great time with my apple watch i'm not saying i would never get another smart watch, but I dunno I feel so free now because I don't  have to wear any one watch to get it's full benefits. Still once there's a solar one or a decent battery maybe i'd try it again for long hikes and stuff like that. Right now i've really enjoyed being a proactive person planning things instead of reacting to situations and being ok with it. I remember before cell phones your friends wouldn't be late or you'd wait cos they couldn't text you on the way saying they are late they had to be organised. Nowadays I feel like people feel I owe them something because I SHOULD be accessible because I have a smart device. i'm only 36... but i've always been an old soul.

Living by the clock is a dangerous habit to form. Your work career is already part of that as necessity. Regret is a dish served after the expiry date. Your body has its own clock and it's far more accurate.

Never owned a smart watch and I don't intend on getting one. I don't need to be reminded of how many steps I take, I walk on average 10km of track every night. I'm reminded of the time and date when I get in my car, look at the computer at work or home or my phone. I take a drink when I'm thirsty, I move when I need too, sleep when I'm tired.

I don't want to get notifications, text messages, emails constantly, only ones from my wife and kids are important to me, so I block the rest. My phone goes on silent once I leave work, so why add another device to annoy you.

On weekends, when I'm not at work the phone stays at home turned off, well unless I have to upload my 1WC wrist shot for the day, then it goes straight back in the draw 😜

I wear a watch on my left wrist and that's enough for me. Enjoy the moment and the here and now and not be distracted by other peoples wants and needs with the relentless calls, text and emails, if it's important they can wait 💯

Just old and stubborn I guess, everyone is different and that's what make this world interesting 👍

you know what? terminator movie was right, its rise of the machine. they dictate us what to do and stuff. rise of the machine doesnt come with t101 or t800 but it is through our smartwatch! be careful guys

I own a Samsung galaxy watch and wore it solidly for three years before I discovered the joy of collecting watches. Since then I have worn it just twice. I don't miss it at all....

·

I turn all my smartwatch notifications off which begs the question: why wear one?

Getting old stinks because I have to wear my Apple Watch to track heart stuff.  Since I am not man enough to double wrist it, I have been searching for alternatives that let me avoid smartwatch wrist time so I can wear my real loves more.

It's tough, right?

There are some watches out there that look like a mechanical, but have some smart functions.

Mostly, if I wear a smart device, I want to wear it for health data only. No notifications.
