Birth year watches

I’m on the hunt for a birth year watch,1964 yes I was born in the 60’s and wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve had my eye on a couple of vintage Seiko’s but wondered if there’s another brands that some of you guys may care to mention and have had experience with that would make a great birth year watch.

I have limited funds and didn’t want to go overboard buying something, so I’ve been looking at watches around the $500 AUD mark.

So any suggestions are welcome 👍

Here are a couple that have caught my eye so far, there all Seiko’s but I am a Seiko fan boy after all 🤣

Box and papers?  Easy choice for me.  But it may not be a rail grinding type of watch.

I have two birth year watches (a Mido and an Omega), but that's not why I acquired them. I am much, much younger than you.

Just a baby then 🤣

Definitely not a watch for work, unless I get an office job 🤓

I’m thinking along the same lines, box and paperwork for a watch made in 1964 is pretty rare and would be great to add to the collection. I was going to look for an Omega but it may be out of my price range, but I’ve only just started looking so hopefully something turns up 👍

I scroll through eBay every once in a while, but 1976 was not a good year (unless you want a crazily expensive Seiko).

Same with cars.  Malaise all over the place...

welcome. Get a Seiko and Kiwiseiko here can fix them.

Yes it’s in the right price range but remember you will pay tax on top of purchase price and this is a mid size diver not the full size 42mm one.

I’ve just checked and the price, shipped to Australia including the 10% GST is $295

Yeah I had another look and it’s 38mm which is okay with me 👍 I have some big divers already, a Marine Master 300 and a Dievas Marine 500, SKX009, Seiko Turtle, Seiko Samurai so a smaller diver would make a great change 👍

I've got a few 1975 Seiko's for my birth year, including a King Quartz with a killer dial. I started grabbing them over a decade ago when things were a little more sensible in the market and people didn't talk about birth year watches as much. However, they're all bloody TINY and I never actually enjoy wearing them :(

Seiko in the 70s had the easiest serial numbers to decode so I was holding out on finding a birth month AND year 6139 or 6138. This came up for sale from a collector friend so I had to jump on it. Couple months off but from 1975 🐼👍🏿
