Would you trade in a Tudor Pelagos 39mm to help pay for a Grand Seiko sbga415?

The pelagos doesn't make me really excited to wear it anymore but still think it's a really good watch but I find it a little boring after a year of owning it. I really love the dial of the sbga415 and feel very strong that the dial alone will make it feel special.

I wouldn’t personally trade in a watch because the dealer has to make their money too and you end up getting short changed. I’ve sold many watches to fund other purchases though. Personally, I’d swap the Pelagos for this GS any day. I don’t like to keep more expensive pieces unless they excite me. I’d rather have that money in a piece that will excite me.

You make a very valid point. Thanks for the input.

My personal take on watches has always been if I get bored with a watch, it's time to move it on. It ain't like a beloved pet turtle or even a goldfish - it's just a thing, a collectible, like a baseball card or comic book - they're meant to be bought, sold, traded, etc.

If you're worried about getting a good deal on a trade-in, I'm happy to put you in touch with my broker. I've bought and traded back in something like 30 watches over the years with him, and have yet to find a better deal out there.

I don’t own either model, but do have a Snowflake and a BB58. While the 39mm Pelagos is a great watch, it is one of many black dial dive watches out there and as such is nowhere near as unique as the Grand Seiko.

Very true! The GS is definitely more unique.

I don't know if this is a hot take or not but the Pelagos is a boring watch to me. I know everyone likes it, I just find it uninspired. I think a GS would be a welcome replacement for it.

Both lovely watches, I'd have both. But if it was an either or situation I would 100% go for the grand Seiko. It's so elegant and distinctive, the tudar is lovely but as others have said it's a black faced sub. Loads out their and therefor easily replaced with a similar watch. The GS is special 😁

Tudor does nothing for me, I have owned a bb36, bb58 and a pelagos when i first started collecting, GS for me offers so much more in terms of value for money, finishing, and wearing something unique. I have never bumped into anyone else wearing a GS. I would 💯% make the trade

My opinion now is different from couple of years ago,I'd have said trade, but because I used that method for years it's not good, keep all watches save up buy the GS,keeping them longer has more gains in the future if you do decide to sell trust me not really lost out on initial sales, seems good getting your money back or making a little, but when you see what there selling for down the line specially if they go up up,yeh not a good method horde them my friend 🤣👌

**update** I'm a brand new owner of the sbga413 "spring" lol I know this poll was for the 415 but seeing them in person the 413 popped sooo much. The winter was great but the 413 just had the dial detail show more in the light. Most of the time It's silver but when any light hits the dial the dial has a very subtle pink color 😍

Save and have them both!
