Can you actually swim with the Omega speedmaster 3861 with 50m WR

Omega claims you can. They do actually test every watch to a static pressure of 5 Bar. So, how can you ensure you won’t flood it?

  1. Don‘t push the chronograph buttons
  2. no diving boards
  3. backyard pools only

That said, if you can afford a speedmaster, you can afford a Seiko 5 diver. Don‘t swim in a speedmaster.

Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't. Why chance it? Dive watch for swimming. Right tool for the job.

Yeah I agree better safe than sorry.

How hard is one swimming? I would not tempt more than a doggy paddle with any 50M watch.

The average person cannot create 5 atmospheres of pressure by swimming at the surface.

Swim in one if you want, but if the Speedy is a stretch to buy/repair why tempt fate?

If you own stock in the Swatch Group I would recommend, otherwise I would not. (P.S.: I've had water damage swimming with a 50m-rated watch while swimming in a hotel pool.) My personal policy is that anything that isn't pressure-tested and/or an actual dive watch can be exposed to water, but not in water.

Probably, but I am not the one to put my watch to the test. Like they say all mushrooms are edible, some only once.

I agree with most things you've said but during summer time if Im already wearing the speedy out and about and some friends spontaneously say lets go for a swim I would love to wear the speedy but most likely I would take it off which sucks. Would be nice not to worry. I get it though, I have other watches that are way more suited for swimming. Thanks for your input 🍻

Still don't trust it with the speedy but if someone wants to swim with the speedy which im sure it's fine but I can't bring myself to do it.

Depends on the age of the Speedy. NO WATCH after a decade is water resistant to it's rating. Unless it's a casio. 🙂

It's the newest version. I've had it for 8 months.

Take it to the moon brother!!

The newer version with METAS certification has undergone testing to ensure it can withstand 25% above the stated water resistance. Should be able to swim with it. But I would not risk it. 😅
