Omega SMP 300 S/G vs Rolex Airking

Hello people I need your help in choosing my next watch. Until a few weeks ago, I was sure I wanted the new Rolex Airking. During a regular visit to the AD, I tried on the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M in bicolor (Sedna Gold). Since then, I can't get this watch out of my mind. However, there are also some points that I do not like so much. First, I absolutely do not like the SMP300 steel bracelet, as it does not really taper. On the rubber strap, I don't like the pin buckle either. Here there should be the possibility to mount an extra folding clasp? The price of 8000€ is on the one hand justified for the gold portion, on the other hand not far away from a Submariner / GMT Master 2. I am aware that there is the chance to lower the price with nice words :) What do you say to the Omega, have you perhaps already experienced with the Seamaster? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Hey and thanks a lot for your words.
I dont have a problem with bigger watches (105kg on 1,9Meter and bigger wrists).
Great collection you got there :)

I voted Airking simply because that’s not the colour combo I would go for on the SMP. I myself have the standard black on black rubber but I also really like the new green. If it were one of those I wouldn’t have chosen the Airking.

The "normal black on black" combo looks also really good.

Its just a little bit "to boring" for my taste. I dont really like the mainstream watches (yes, the Airking is not mainstream ^^)

I have the Seamaster 300, but it’s the titanium one on the Milanese bracelet, which I find very comfortable. I think Omega is just selling this bracelet now and possibly in steel. I’ve also got an AT with a rubber strap, but it’s on a deployant clasp. I’m also not a fan of pin clasps on rubber straps, but they can be great with deployants. Good luck, both fine watches.

I freaking love the milanese bracelet Omega offers

Love both brands, but the SMP 300, gets my vote every time over an Air King.

I have the same one as you, but between the two listed I’d go Air King (due to colour combo).

The SMP is outstanding, and probably technically better, though. But SS for me!

This is an interesting choice. These watches both occupy very different places in the market. Also, comparing an S&G against steel is also an interesting decision. The SMP 300 is a great watch - I have one with a white dial. I don’t have an Air King, but I do have a 124060 Sub. Here’s what I know from owning both Omega and Rolex: the overall package of the Rolex never ceases to please me. Fit, finish, and wearing experience. All tops. The Omega SMP 300 is also a fantastic piece, and holds its own against the crown, but as you say… the bracelet is a bit of a let down. In my opinion (not a Rolex snob - I have $20 watches in my collection that I’m proud of), the Rolex is a great long-term choice, particularly if you can score one at retail. You can own it for many years, and never regret looking down at your wrist. Plus, the fit and finish will remind you when you wear it of the value of refinement. My .02. I hope this helps.

Thank you for the detailed explanation of your opinion. Now that you say that, I also notice that the watches have little in common. This probably means that in the long term both must be in the collection.... D After another comment, I took a closer look at the Milanaise straps and will have them shown to me again at the AD :) Thanks for helping :)

Both great options and different types of watches. I’m inclined to say go with what you have wanted longer.

I'm going against every "I prefer Rolex to Omega" instinct I have by voting for the Seamaster.  I may be getting old, but 2 tone is starting to appeal to me more and more.

I'd wear it on leather though; I find SMP bracelets hideous.
