How much are you willing to spend on a watch?

What is the most money you would justify spending on a watch?

For whatever reason, $10k is what I can mentally justify. I don’t have that much for a watch, but I can see myself buying something at that price. Luckily, most watches I see beyond that aren’t too interesting to me.

I think that is relative to one's finances and/or one's level of degeneracy. For me, I'm figuring out a way to justify (read: use convoluted "logic" and "reasoning") a Zeitwerk.

All of it !

·

I can justify $1k for myself but have spent more on a watch for the wife.

·

Right now? 500 tops (maybe before tax if it's something I really want). In the future? I can see my Budget getting dangerously high lol

·

Ive limited myself to £1000 even when I've had more available. I think there is a point of diminishing returns and when you look at the quality of £1000 clones it appears to be the point where quality stops improving significantly.

·

$400 at most right now. I usually like affordable ones though, but I find some around that number are really interesting

·

Max I’d go is probably somewhere between £10-15k depending on the watch. I don’t really see me spending more because I know that watch would become too valuable.

Without asking the spouse? $500

With discussion & agreement? I'm hoping $4-5K.

For my lifestyle, I'm comfortable buying that watch & wearing it for most situations.

I found that buying a used 18ct gold watch from the 90s for £1800 which had all the complications I could ever practically want was remarkably effective at curbing my desire to buy any watches which cost more than that. Ormore watches in general. It made everything else look like terrible value in comparison

It was still a lot to spend on a what's a personal indulgence. It helped that the melt value of the gold was 75% of the watch's price. So I comforted myself with the knowledge that if I ever hit really hard times and the watch market bombed I'd still be able to recoup a decent sum by selling it for scrap.

My grails are the NTTD and the 60 Years of Bond Omegas, so whatever they will cost me.

·

50k

·

My threshold is 6k though I've not yet actually paid that much for any watch.

·

2% of my yearly income.

I was thinking about that the other day, realized that the amount I am willing to spend on a watch today is the same ceiling back in the late 80s. Of course during the 80s you were buying AP, some Pateks, Brequet and Blancpain, these days it’s Breitling, Omega, Cartier and Grand Seiko. I used to buy nice watches with deep courtesy discounts also.
