It's one of the most overpriced hype watches out there that is not a Rolex. Seems more aligned to Omega quality - so similar pricing seems warranted. I understand Blancpain is slotted higher in the Swatch hierarchy, and it obviously works, but it's not a brand for me at its price point(s).
I’ve always wondered why the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms costs so much. It is possibly THE most boring watch money could but with a design that has been done to death and far better IMO by any diver microbrand out there.
“But muh military heritage” Wow, Waltham made cases for Blancpain but their skin divers don’t cost 5 figures!
It is worth to somebody that will buy it. My take on this question - if SS Rolex Submariner date is worth 11k$ and Yachtmaster Ti is worth 15k$ then Fifthy Fathoms is definitely worth 20k$ ( it is Ti on bracelet ).
Is it overpriced? Probably, @Pallet_Fork's post shows it being offered at a 5K discount. Is it overhyped? Probably not, it certainly isn't hyped enough to get over retail pricing. Is it iconic? Maybe, perhaps demigod status among the watch Mount Olympus watch gods? It certainly is not an icon in the class of a Submariner or Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch or Cartier Tank.

$20k? Whaaaaaaat? Maybe if the case was solid 18k gold.
I have to say, 120 hours of power reserve is pretty cool. Here's a titanium version and the one we normally see:

The gold case is more than 20k but it was just the only picture of the fifty fathoms I had
No watch is worth $20.000, icon or not. Luxury markups are just wack.

Yes.
It is an icon, & aspirational pieces should be expensive!
I like the watch a lot, but 20k for a dive watch is ridiculous.
It's an overpriced & overhyped icon.
Yes - because I want to watch this thread burn. I love the Fifty Fathoms, but I’d always want a vintage one over a new one, that’s the flex.

Must be worth it to someone 🤷

The Sub is a million times the icon at half the price.
So no.
The market will decide their sales and is why Swatch had to hype them to bring up sales with their plastic replica.
This new 42mm version seems way over priced considering the spec and value the Bathyscaphe represents…
I certainly wouldn’t consider one of these new without a huge discount.

Yeah, sounds overpriced to me.
