Tiffany Blue

Mom likes fancy things, and has distinct taste, which makes her hard to shop for. I had no idea what to get her for Hanukkah, and then my brother-in-law (who has some luxury goods retailers as clients) suggested a gift from Tiffany & Co. We found a pair of Tiffany Blue coffee cups, and clicked “Order.” From the minute Mom saw the gift bag and the wrapping paper in that famous color, she was beside herself with excitement.

This made me wonder. I’ve never been tempted by a Tiffany Blue watch. Are those of you who love them (and made them so popular recently) moved by the simple fact that you like the color, or is there an association with luxury that only people with more refinement than me (which is all of you) perceive?

Depends on your background - I always see 1959 Triumph Bonneville blue and associate it with that, the whole Tiffany thing just doesn't register with me at all.

And no, I wouldn't want a watch in that colour ( tho my last Triumph was resprayed in that colour)

Genuine Tiffany blue has no temptation for me. I bought my Tsuyosa, which is a different blue to my eye, simply because I liked the colour. Somehow people started calling every type of light blue Tiffany. But yes, if it appeals to me, I can quite like a light blue dial.

Meh, if you want something that's associated with a specific colour, buy Hermès. Better yet, ask them for a dial in Hermès Orange.

Saw the movie with Audrey Hepburn on my family’s old B&W tv, suddenly my 11 year old self aspired to be a writer, live in Manhattan, meet a lady interesting like Holly Golightly but someone who didn’t survive on cash tips from her gentleman friends, haha. Years later my best friend and I were suddenly shopping for a ring at the newly established Tiffany’s here in Toronto. The boutique manager suggested that I check out a perpetual Patek just for the fun of the experience; an engagement ring and marriage might push expensive watches aside for a few long years, haha. Sorry, long remark and no interest in Tiffany blue dials or any of the new bright dial colours. IMO colourful watch dials might be a passing fancy, I tend to keep my watches forever.

I should have bought her some Vanta Black coffee cups!

Smart. Your watches have undoubtedly aged better than Mickey Rooney’s portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi!

Hope you are also keeping the spouse forever.

She is my best friend, only critic that I respect. I did recently buy a new watch with a light salmon colour dial. Hope your mom was delighted with the coffee mugs. Happy Hanukkah!

I attended a terrific public high school with black and orange colours, Halloween is my favourite day, proposed marriage to my wife on a Halloween when she and I were the only 2 diners in a lonely cafe. Our first grand daughter was born in October. I think the Hermes orange is probably the most iconic colour in marketing. A few years ago met a retired lawyer and his wife in Paris, they were celebrating their lawyer daughter being hired to work for Hermes corporate office. Apparently working for Hermes is a dream situation.

Everyone knows that Charles Lewis Tiffany often gazed out at the waters of Lake Suwa from his Manhattan balcony, and found great inspiration thusly. 😂😂😂

I married a Montrealer myself, and I feel the same way.

You guys are all talking about cool stories tied with colors.

... I like green LED watches because of Luke Skywalker's lightsaber in 'Return of the Jedi'...

My wife is Chinese-Canadian-American. Her parents arrived in Montreal around the same time your family did. Most of the family in Mississauga now, but a few still in Montreal. You have a great day, too!

Ngl till this year I'd never heard of Tiffany blue. I like light blue, could see myself getting it for a luxury occasional beachy wear, but for something more sadly I'd need a darker shade

·

I love both the color of Tiffany blue and their diamonds too! @Ichibunz helped me scratch my Tiffany blue itch with this watch.

Being a UNC grad, my wife LOVES Carolina Blue (very similar to Tiffany blue). But not for everything! She recently got a very nice Wilson Combat Custom pistol. I got her some Carolina Blue Kydex holsters and she loved them. I offered to find some Carolina blue grips for the pistol and she balked. "Blue holsters are pretty. But the gun needs to look more serious."

That's how I feel about watches! 😂

Bought it when OP was not as popular watch, no waitlist just walked in and bought

The best ever hoops player from my high school went on to UNC, so I always rooted for them too (especially because my Dad went to Georgetown, so it was fun to have a rivalry). It’s a great color. Go ‘Heels!

That’s a particularly pretty application of that color. Really beautiful.

dig the color - but for me it's more about the aquamarine water color I'd love to be swimming in!!

I find the Tiffany execution of blue somewhat bland. Not the color itself which is a pleasant medium robins egg kinda thing, but the fact that they chose a matte finish rather than anything pearlescent or with shine.

Agree. Some of the watches bring a lot more life to the color than Tiffany itself does, for sure.

I like the Tiffany dials. it's a bold color for me, unusual, clashes, draws attention, sometimes uncomfortable and unsettling. feel like wearing it challenges me to live outside the box. makes the steel pop.

This Halloween while we were in Seattle my wife dressed up as Holly Golightly and we went to the downtown Seattle T&Co store to take pics and buy her a bracelet only to find it has closed!

Now I have to lock down another little blue box elsewhere. 😪

Thx for the photo, a pleasure to meet a fan of the movie and short story. There is a perfect scene in the movie about shoplifting Halloween masks.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to both you and your adorable wife! All the best from Toronto. ❤️
