For $3k grand what would you choose?

I'm not looking to buy but I figured for a budget of $3k which of these would you choose? Pics borrowed from Ebay.

1)1980's Rolex Air king ref 14000m (34mm)

price $2,995

Image

2) Grand Seiko ref SBGW231 (37mm) price $2,950

Image

3) Girard Perregaux ref 2765, 27650-11-141-BACD (N/A)

price $2,800

Image

4) Ulysse Nardin 1846 Chronometer ref 263-22 (38MM)

price $2,980

Image

5) Zenith Class El Primero ref 02.0500.400 (38mm)

price $2,980

So for $3k what would you take?

On ebay??

Nothing for that coin.

·

Out of those the AirKing is the 34mm isn’t too small.

·

In that ballpark I wouldn't be opposed to trying out a Sjöö Sandström Royal Classic:

Zenith el Primero for me

OK far enough do you know any other websites?

If I'm spending 3 grand it sure as hell isn't going to be online. That's in person,AD, face to face money.

People spend 3k on ebay all day every day. If the buyer has good reviews and the authenticity guarantee is in place (as it should be at that price) you're probably going to be fine.

That said, none of these watches do it for me, but i suppose the seiko is closest to something I'd want.

I get what you're saying but what if you live somewhere, that doesn't sell watches in that price range? I guess one could ask a trusted watch dealer.

What I would choose is a mystery 🤣😂🥳

None of these speak to me… so probably the Rolex as I feel I could confidently flip it. 😂

This seems to be kinda along the same style with the watches you have in mind. You can likely negotiate 20% off with an AD.

·

From those, the GP looks the most interesting. I wouldn't have a problem spending £3k there.

·

Do you particularly love any of these? Seems like a really wide net, which do you like?

·

The Grand Seiko is a beautiful piece.

Hard to pick really the UN and GP are two brands I’d love to try someday. But I’m open to all of them.

·

Ulisse Nardin, or el primero.

·

Zenith

·

Longines master series. Your pick of the litter can be had circa 2500 USD

Unless of course you're specifically looking for a vintage piece.

14000m I would go if you don't mind this little 34mm case. 3035 is a great movement, there are many many watchmakers who can handle the movement so the watch will last long. Stainless steel case and bracelet works great on any occupation.

Usually the chronographs are harder to maintain, and as you put limits on price, I assumed you don't want to spend too much on maintenance then 3 hander works good.

SBGW231 is a good watch but when that zaratsu polish is gone, it takes months and cashes to bring it back.

·

GS 100%

·

El primero. It looks unique, great movement, can be dressed up or down

·

3k for me, it a Nomus. Club sport

·

That Ulysse Nardin is gorgeous and something you don't see in everybody's collection! That's the one I'd go for

·

I’d go with the Air King (or a 34mm Date if you can find one) because I love oyster bracelets. If you’re not as wedded to bracelets I think the Grand Seiko is awesome

My next threeish grand will probably go on one of these:

I have gone through similar purchase decisions. When i got into watches, a rolex explorer was 3k usd so i would not spend anymore than that for a very good watch. U have to decide if you want a modern and new watch or a preloved one. I decided to go modern and dont have to worry abt the history. Pick a bb58 in blue. Super happy w it. From your list, i would go w the grand seiko and try to find a blue or green dial of the similar sbgw model! Best of luck.

Personally, I will pick either:

Tudor Ranger

or Sinn 556i RS

·

Ulysse nardin for me, beautiful numerals and vintage look, that red 1846 elevates the watch

·

The prices seem low. Make sure you get authenticity guarantee, look at the images very carefully and read the description thoroughly. eBay’s AG will confirm that the watch is the real deal and that everything matches the images and description.

·

Oooh tough call between the GS and the air King

·

That Girard Perregaux is absolutely stunning. Very unique. Would stretch out most collections!
