NWA: Baltany 1921 American Historique homage have just arrived

Whoo! Got my first Ali Express brands watch. It's the Baltany homage of the VC1921 American.

First and foremost, thank you to the courier guy. He braved pouring rain and wind and some flash floods to bring the package safe and sound to me. 🥇🫡

First impression, Baltany did alright. It's light, the strap doesn't feel like a cheap strap and winding the Miyota feels good-ish (not the movement's fault but we'll talk about it later). Huh, my first high beat Miyota movement. Yay! 😛

Whoever talked about it being noisy, I don't know what you're talking about. I put it next to my ear while winding it and swinging it a bit to hear these rotor noises people have been talking about. Didn't hear anything loud. Heck, my Seiko Kinetic is louder when I shake it.

That said, how the hell do people that own this and the original wind the bloody thing? The crown is big but thin but the placement? It sucks donkey's ball. I keep bumping against the lug. Thank goodness for the winder, I say.

No idea when I'll be able to put a proper review here as it's raining like cats and dogs here so we'll see how it goes.

Oh nice...now that looks like a proper Vacheron Constantine clommage there. 🍻

How's the winding experience? I guess my sausage hands don't fare well with it.

·

You could try these maybe?

@Pallet_Fork recommended them awhile back. Works like a champ on my 1970's Wolbrook and the Vostok Retro Driver style hand winder.

Huh...we get extra leverage now? Damn....so extra, I like it! 😁

I'd be curious to learn how long it takes, if ever, to be able to tell time without conscious frustration on these crooked dials. Maybe I lack neural plasticity but I doubt I'd have the patience to find out.

If any differences from that VC that looks are found, please share.

Wear it in your left hand, hold a steering wheel at 10 and 2 and take a look. Trust me, it works. If you hold your steering wheel at the 9 and 3 position, wear it so dial is inside your left wrist. It works too.

I'm now curious as to how one fastens the buckle on the far side of the wrist. This all seems very challenging but I'm glad you find it worthwhile.

For some watches you will wonder how you got along without them. I know I have some Timex that are a PITA to set the date without these.

·

Very nice. 👌🏼 The design style of the dial makes me think of a Baltic watch. Baltic/Baltany 🤔

·

Just took delivery of mine! All I can say is WOW! 🤩

I keep saying I'm a dive watch guy and not a dress watch guy yet I have 3 dress watches and not a single diver 😂

·

,,😂😂😂😂😂my Seiko kinetic is louder ,😂😂😂😂tell me about it my 2 kinetics are the loudest of all my watches spot on mate .

·

Your watch has AFAIK the Miyota 9039 movement. That is a 28,800 beat movement and not loud - I think the 8215 is supposedly loud. Note that the small-seconds version needs a different movement, they have the ST1701 from Seagull. So, different movements will give you a different winding experience.

I own the Baltany 1926, also the version with the 9039 movement, but mine has a screw-down crown, so you have to unscrew to wind. But I think this one is different.

·

This is so sexy!!!

I'm looking forward to receiving mine, in salmon with sub-seconds. As VC haven't done it in salmon I'm happy to call it a homage.

I have a 1940 VC with a smaller crown than this and it's very tight to the case. I've not had a problem winding that so this shouldn't be difficult.

I love the VC1921, waaaay oit of my price range. How much did this one cost you?

There are some differences:

Baltany sub-second -- VC

1. leaf hands -- Breguet hands

2. blue (d ?) long second hand with counterweight -- black (blued on the platinium version) second hand with 'normal' length, no counterweight

3. unsigned crown -- signed crown

4. no 'China made' -- 'SWISS MADE' on the dial

5. closed caseback -- sapphire caseback

6. automatic -- handwound

7. water resistance: 50m -- 30m

8. price 165 € (during sale) -- 30.000 € or more

Interesting. Baltany continues their tradition on improving upon existing designs.

Around $250. Good price for a Miyota 9039 movement, eh? ☺️

The one with the sub seconds dial are even cheaper if I'm not mistaken.

·

I love this watch because I will never buy the VC. I love it too, but I have too many other responsibilities vying for that money

My small seconds version is VERY noisy 🤣

I have a Baltany dirty dozen clone and have been impressed with the quality. I was thinking about getting this one for my old man for Christmas. One thing that is causing a bit of hesitation is the railroad minute track looks all over the place. At first, I thought this must be due to distortion when viewing through an angle, but then the face on shots also show some very wobbly looking ‘rails’. Do they look okay in person?

They're alright. The wobbly effect is from the sapphire glass. The distortion is noticeable unless you look at it at a 90 degree angle.

As long as it’s just distortion, then I’m in! My dad has always worn his watch on the inside of his wrist and this design is made for him. I think it’ll tickle him too that it’s a copy of a £20k watch.

Sorry, but I don't see an homage, but a rip off.
